Project Summary
The project “Our Homes Have Much In Common” is intended as a two-years one. It is part of the long term strategy in preventing bullying of any kind, improving childrens’ multicultural awareness and tolerance as well as deepening students’ knowledge of their own culture and environment. The project has two main goals. Firstly, it will improve students’ general personality traits such as intrinsic responsibility, willingness to communicate, cooperate and help, eagerness for knowledge and willingness to open their minds in getting to know each other. Secondly, the project aims at improvement of knowledge of the subtopics we have chosen – (multi)cultural heritage, social differences and environmental responsibility.
There are four countries involved in the project. At least 50 students the age of 12-15 from each one will carry out all the planned activities (of which 39 are students with fewer opportunities). 6 students from each country will be chosen for each international visit.
The process of creation of a living place will be used as a common platform for every subtopic. The students will work on one topic connected to one room in a house/flat every two months. In addition, older students – participants on the project – will be given the responsibility for sharing their experience with younger schoolmates in “students teaching students” events during the project period. Online platforms such as TwinSpace, Facebook, Youtube, Padlet and Kahoot will be used for presenting and sharing the outcomes of the project.
As there are at least 39 students with fewer opportunities participating in the project, a short-term joint staff training event is planned at the beginning of the project to provide teachers with teaching methods and in-class examples in this field. Teachers will be also provided with an extra training in the use of online platforms according to the project’s needs and GDPR restrictions.
As a long term result of the project, school social climate will improve as well as students’ open mindedness to other cultural backgrounds. Students’ internal responsibility for the surrounding environment will be increased.
All the outcomes (logo, posters, photos, videos, presentations, project diaries and others) and sets of materials (worksheets, instructions) will be publicly available on TwinSpace for further use after the project is finished. Also parts of the project will be used as models for next short-term projects on national level. New international school traditions will be set up in order to maintain newly born relationships.
