Project Summary

We all understand how important is learning foreign languages in today’s global world. English is particularly useful, since it is one of the most often used languages in the world. It is taught at school since an early age, still, language proficiency is difficult to gain for many students. Thus, the project Exploring the world with English aims at improvement of students’ English proficiency and development of their motivation to study. To achieve this goal, we will apply two attitudes: firstly, we will implement attractive methods and strategies of teaching which will raise students’ motivation for learning and make them participate more actively, secondly, we will help them define their learning style and teach them effective learning strategies. We believe that learners who have developed skills of choosing appropriate learning strategies will be better able to exploit classroom learning opportunities effectively, and will be more adequately equipped to continue with language learning outside the classroom. We also want to provide them with information about the European Qualification Framework to let them understand the importance of having learning experiences validated for further study and work. We will make use of Europass and use Common European Framework of Reference for Languages to asses students’ level of language proficiency at the beginning and end of the project.
The project is meant to improve educational conditions of schools taking part in the project. Thanks to the exchange of experience and sharing good practices, the participants will help reduce educational differences and will be able to introduce innovative methods of teaching in their home institutions. Transnational meetings, discussions and workshops will lead to the improvement of teachers’ qualifications, both in the field of teaching and educational work, also with disadvantaged students. Students will work in international teams which will increase their communication, entrepreneurial and interpersonal skills, raise their self-confidence and cultural awareness.
The project’s activities will proceed in each school of the partnership simultaneously and have the form of searching for, designing and using in practice different innovative methods of teaching which then be evaluated both by teachers and students. Both parties will share their ideas and opinions online, through such channels like emails, social media, eTwinning and during transnational meetings. Moreover, there will be transnational meetings and short-term student exchanges organised in order to learn more about each school’s background and share experiences, learn about each country’s culture, broaden our general knowledge and improve social and language competences. The most important outcome of the project will be a handbook consisting of a set of methods, techniques and their descriptions in terms of their usefulness in different pupils’ groups, together with pupils’ reviews , photo blogs and video clips. The other part of the handbook will include information about learning styles and the most effective learning strategies.
The expected impact of the project’s activities will concern students increased motivation to study and improved English proficiency, teachers’ increased satisfaction with everyday work and a sense of fulfilment, improved digital and language competences. Not less important will be such results as greater intercultural awareness, better understanding of EU projects and EU common values among all the participants and other stakeholders.
We hope that the project’s outcome will influence other teachers’ attitude to the process of education and become a source of inspiration for further pursuit of innovative teaching strategies.
