Project Summary
Since the global financial crisis, high youth unemployment rates have been a problem across the world. One region that has been hit particularly hard by this problem in Europe — in both its developed economies and its emerging ones. In January 2021, 2.929 million young persons (under 25) were unemployed in the EU, of whom 2.356 million were in the euro area. In January 2021, the youth unemployment rate was 16.9 % in the EU and 17.1 % in the euro area. According to TUIK data on the youth unemployment rate of the year 2020 in Turkey is 25,4%, the employment rate is 29,6%. The “Youth and COVID-19: Access to Decent Jobs Amid the Pandemic” report conducted in Turkey notes that 77% of the young respondents from Turkey and 61% of young refugee respondents report that COVID-19 has adversely affected their job search. The youth further report that available jobs have diminished, and negative responses to their job applications have increased(ILO).
3I – International Internship Incubation, has been created to target youth unemployment, which is one of the major problems of Europe and Turkey, to develop young people’s professional competence, it has been implemented in order to create youth employment opportunities through the international internship experience.
The project has been shaped in order to determine the youth employment needs and to meet these needs. Young people should have professional experience and competence, have individual experience and abilities, especially in a foreign language, vocational internship, communication, teamwork, which will enable them to be preferred by employers, eliminating the deficiencies in looking for a job suitable for them (Using online tools in a qualified way, CV preparation, interview techniques, individual research skills).
In the project, in order to contribute to employment, one of the priorities of Erasmus + was aimed to establish an International Internship Incubation as a sustainable structure that supports the development of young people’s individual competencies and technical internship, to carry out vocational and technical training in this center, and to ensure that young people who have completed their education can do an internship abroad. These goals have been achieved with the project activities.
– Turkey’s first International Internship Incubation was established for the first time in Izmir. – Short, medium and long-term strategic plan of the Center was established, duties and responsibilities were determined and a road map was produced.

In the Internship Incubation, 35 young people between the ages of 18 – 30 attended 4-month vocational and soft skills training. These young people living in Balçova, İzmir, who are currently undergraduate and unemployed and who have not been able to find a job for a while, who want to shape their career in their professional fields or in coding, social media management, advertising and are willing to receive education in these fields, have been selected. 21 participants out of these trained young people who are successful, undertook their 45 days internship in partner countries Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Serbia, and Turkey. 14 of these interns were employed after training and their internship and they are still working.
