Project Summary
Context of the project; The number of registrated students in EU is 88194.6.Besides,the age of starting school in EU is generally 6.These huge numbers are thought-provoking.Cause it’s preferable that the start&transition to school should be smooth and controlled in theory. But what about the reality?Orientation Problem! We thought that there are reasons needed to be to examine and reveal like the current profiles of the students, their parents, teachers and the school itself. That’s why we believe and focus on our project context.
ALLready project emerged from the facts that we need to facilitate the transition by softening with mutual convergence, striking a balance among teacher-school-parent-student on the current needs&situations. We suggested to update traditional school orientation programs to serve students better by enchancing school dynamics holistically. Our target group were the new students starting to primary schools, their parents&teachers. All school partners had newcomers to their schools for the forthcoming academic years. We expected 1000 students at least to be enrolled for the new academic year to each partner school as a total number.Their parents were directly involved to the project activities also;2000 parents of these 1000 new comers.
There were 3 Transnational Project Meetings and 30 participants attended to these TPMs.Also there were 2 LTTs and 62 participants attended to these LTTs.The profile of the participants were school/university teachers and related staffs in other partners.
Project objectives were to decrease the number of the students who have difficulty to accustom to school life, search, examine&reveal the anxiety about start of school, facilitate initial impressions to school&new learning area, familiarize students with the school&its physical facilities, create a school atmosphere that minimizes anxiety, promotes positive attitudes, stimulates an excitement for learning, provide a welcoming event for students&families, provide the families of new students comprehensive information about the orientation program, physcial&psychological developments of their child and to enhance teachers of beginner students.
Description of undertaken activities&results; The project extended to 36 months÷d into key phases;Preparation,Project activities,Dissemination,Evaluation,Reviewing the final versions of all outcomes&Reporting.
The activities were take another’s place activity;creating anxiety map;generating content of the letter for defining the child from parent’s perspective, creating checklist for teachers;generating parent booklet content;prepare school model&unlettered signs;preparation of school decoration and arrangement plans for the 1st day at school, getting feedbacks from parents about parent booklet, anxiety map, letters defining child and teachers’ checklist;study of content of workshops, processes and necessary equipments for related workshop;Preparation&Implementation&Evaluation of workshops;dissemination activities;evaluation of all project outcomes and adjustments of all outcomes according to the feedbacks, interviews and comparisons;generating the final versions of each outcome;analysing results of anxiety map which was implemented new comers of three academic year in the project period and come to a final decision about what is the top concern of new comers related to school and how schools can take precautions and rehabilitate this concern;presentation of all activities from each partner, overall evaluation of the project by means of success, impact and results.
Impacts on target group-students:easily adaptation to school, enjoing the school with the activities and workshops, increased self confidence, being successful and adaptable individuals in their social and academic life, less problems caused by disorientation i.e.absence,aggression,adoptation to school as a remarkable place with the activities individually participated in,descreased anxiety towards to school, positive attitudes to school life, improved academic achivements, decreased behavioral problems, increased communication&empathy among students, easy to do activities with peers anymore without parents involvement&early identification of certain anxieties belong to child apart from school anxiety.
As we thought that the best way of preparing a child for school was to ensure that they had optimal social, emotional and learning experiences and environments during the early years, both at home and in community settings and services. So our project supported students, parents, teachers and schools with different and innovative activities. The project gave primacy to a good start first, not academic achievements. How well they were ready for school, more and quality achievements they had.We believed that how well children, parents, teachers and schools were prepared for this transition, better impacts on students’ long term outcomes at school and personal lives would be.To succeed our aim we strongly believed that we have to be ALLready !
