Project Summary

“Keep calm and…play traditional sports” was a project which aimed at development of bilingual teaching methods among partners with the main theme of traditional sports. The concept of our project was to create CLIL workshops related to traditional sport from each partner country . We integrated History and Culture, PE, Science, Maths, ICT and English and designed a valuable and innovative programme. Every partner country organised five day students conference and provided CLIL classes for the participants. They concerned the particular traditional sport( Palant -stick ball in Poland; Gymkhana in Spain; Oil Wrestling in Turkey; Ruzzolone in Italy) its history and cultural background, sets of rules and regulations allowing students to do the sports, on- field practice of sport skills, communicating in English language, mathematical calculations and operations to produce and measure sport results, presenting the results and information using ICT, promoting and learning about healthy lifestyle and life processes, taking responsibility for own well-being and creating positive attitude towards sports and competition. The target group of the project was: students aged 9-13 , teachers participating in the project and school organizations. In this group there were also students with special educational needs, who had an equal opportunity to participate in all the project work and mobilities and thus developed their competencies and communication skills. The project’s objectives were the following :
1. transferring students’ skills into real-life situations 2. developing of 8 key competencies and communication described in EU Framework as well as cross-curricular learning based on CLIL method 3. developing of the entrepreneurship of our students 4. exchanging and sharing teachers’ experience with each other 5. developing and improving teachers’ qualifications in the field of bilingual teaching and using CLIL method 6. enriching the teachers’ workshop and portfolio 7.increasing communicative skills in a foreign language of the staff and students 8. establishing high quality teaching standards of participating organizations 9. introducing good practice into every day teaching 10.establishing international cooperation at international level 11.exchanging the management experience 12.integrating communities of partner schools. This project was carried out transnationally in order to achieve the following goals: 1. developing of bilingual teaching practice 2. providing students with equal chances to develop their key competencies and communication skills by international exchange 3. developing students entrepreneurial and social enterpreneurial skills by involving them in active participation at different stages of planning and implementation of the project 4. introducing innovative methodology and results into everyday teaching practice 5. implementing innovative techniques and CLIL lessons into curriculum. We managed to disseminate the project’s results and products to all students , teachers and staff directly and indirectly involved in the process of creating and implementing the project. There was a target group of students and professionals who were directly involved in the project, but the impact and the results are expected to bring positive and long lasting effects on the participating organizations and on the policy systems of those organizations. This project’s products and outcomes contributed to development and implementation of innovative practices in the field of bilingual teaching and using CLIL methodology at organizational as well as local, regional and international levels. The partnership schools provided innovative solutions into their curricula, they included their traditional sports taught bilingually into their educational programmes and thus students and teachers were directly influenced by the outcomes of the project.
