Project Summary
Our ERASMUS+ Project „Life inclusive! European participation in labour and leisure for people with disabilities“ allowed us to discover and compare different opportunities for people with disabilities in all participating countries. It enabled us not only to draw conclusions based on our observations but also to implement some new ideas and good practises in our own schools.
The idea for the project emerged from a previous Comenius (LLP) project among three partners who all seemed to have the same urging questions upon vocational training for SEN-students concerning inclusive settings.
We were six partners from France, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom and Germany and either special educative or inclusive working schools.
Most of our students are intellectually or physically disabled and / or from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The transition of our students into employment and later life has become more an issue in all participating countries since inclusive education became a standard practise throughout Europe. During the life of the project all partners have considered new solutions and options for integration into existing and newly developed school curricula for the final years of education plans. To ensure sustaining cooperation between all participants, the students and teachers used all means of modern media techniques for networking such as websites, chatrooms, DVD production, videos, web-based presentations, etc.
The mayor aim was to increase awareness in teachers, students and local communities for the possibilities and risks young people with disability are confronted with today. Secondly we wanted to motivate our students to interest themselves for fellow students, foreign countries and different culture.
A large number of labour an leisure activities took place in every participating country to find out about possibilities our partners offer to their students. In each country we have visited several labour and leisure facilities such as (training) restaurants, industrial production, occupational workshops, etc.
During the project we have created and shared many products that can be viewed on our twinspace such as self-made tourist guides, mascots and logos, movies, newspapers, art exhibitions and many things more.
There has been a sustaining impact on involved students, teachers and further staff, school communities and local partners. All participants learnt from the ERASMUS+ experience reflected in our own evaluation forms (especially designed for students with SEN – results available on twinspace)
The feedback we received from the communities and local authorities can be seen in various press articles and local TV news.
Local authorities participated in certain venues such as school assemblies, conferences, shows, speeches and interviews which have enriched the project by carrying out discussions and exchanging views about topic specific matters.
By developing a network in between many partners and providing expertise among each other and distributing the outcomes on twinspace, other websites and local press many providers and professionals that work in the field of Special Education Needs (SEN) were able to exchange their ideas and expertise and learn from gathered experience.
