Project Summary

“Healthy schools and fit for life” is a project which focusses on the topic of health referring not only to the physical but also mental and emotional health of our students, which will positively and sustainably influence health issues in the region. Through the children and young people their families will be made sensitive to all aspects of health. The linking of two transnational schoolpartners Birkfeld and Gorizia broadens horizons and knowledge. Comparing health issues and their meaning and importance with the families and community of rural Birkfeld and urban Gorizia enables an increase of awareness and sensitivity on the topic.

The students have the opportunity to learn the importance of the richness of regional food production in comparison to fast and junkfood. Schooldinners will be reflected upon, analysed and improved. During the students exchange visits there will be excursions

to local agricultural farms and factories and local enterprises like Kuhcafe and Hennencafe where you can simultaneously

consume and watch the animals in their sheds and barns.

Physical fitness will be the main topic of the second year of our project. A questionnaire on fitness issues and habits will be evaluated and reflected upon and the information will be exchanged via email with our partners in Italy and Birkfeld. Both modern, trendy sports and daily gymnastic exercises will be introduced as a means of compensating for the long hours of sitting at school and during their studies. Ten minutes of exercise is part of the curriculum of a school day and specially trained students demonstrate gymanastic exercises to their peers. Musclefunction will be measured to see the effectivity of the daily exercises.

The importance of physical health and sufficient exercise will be made subject of in Biology, sport lessons and English.

Alcohol, drug and internet abuse will be reflected upon in projects and workshops.

Finally psychological, emtional and the mental health of students and their peers will find room and significance in workshops and projects.

This project promotes and supports creativity, communicative and linguistic competences by stabilising the physical and emotional health of children and young people. They become sensitive in their relationships to others and they learn strategies to overcome possible conflicts and find solutions.
