Project Summary

In recent years we often notice manifestations of intolerance and xenophobia which have influence on children and young people. In the survey made in partner schools, we have found out that the problem is intensifying, probably because of the fear of the unknown.
Therefore, we have decided to make our students aware that despite cultural, religious or social differences many things connect us, for example art, sensitivity for the world around us or ways of spending free time. We would like to involve also people with disabilities in our activities who repeatedly experience manifestations of intolerance.

5 schools from different countries: Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Italy will participate in the project.
We assume that at least 400 people (pupils, teachers, school employees and local communities) will be involved in the project activities directly.
The project was written after a diagnosis of partner schools’ needs.

We will realize the following aims:
-developing of tolerance and openness by learning about culture, history and traditions of partner countries;
-developing students’ skills of critical thinking;
-using non-formal, innovative learning activities in an environment of inclusion for improving students’ studying and training so that they can learn lifelong learning strategies and know how to find a job;
-developing cross-sectional skills (entrepreneurship, developing language and IT competences).

During 24 months we will:
– systematically work in national and international students and teachers groups;
– perform tasks from activities plan;
-make presentations (for example about traditional games, computer games, national dances, favourite music, national holidays);
-prepare photo albums, project calendars, cookery books and information brochures;
-participate in art, photography, computer, cooking, music, dancing, sport, technical and psychological workshops;
-participate in workshops about safety of the Internet and issues related to attitudes;
-visit child care homes or/and nursing houses;
-discuss tolerance, social exclusion, xenophobia and agree on the procedures during difficult situations.

During 5 international meetings (learning, teaching, workshops), we will introduce our products, solve problems together, teach and develop skills during thematic workshops and meetings with important people (for example in Jewish community and Astalli Centre for refugees).
We will learn using problem solving techniques and concentrate on active methods of teaching. The students will be our partners. They will be authors of all the activities we want to take up. We believe they will become responsible European citizens.
Children who are physically disabled will be included in all activities we are going to conduct. We would like to help them to overcome their own barriers.

Thanks to the project, participants will:
– become more open to the world and its diversity;
-respect culture and traditions of other countries and try to counteract the intolerance;
-increase their knowledge of the world;
– get new competences, especially language and ICT;
The growth of their knowledge and self-confidence will make it easier for them to a find better job in the future.

After completing the project, all the participants will:
-be more tolerant and open to the needs of others;
-share their knowledge with other students, parents and local society;
-improve their language and ICT skills;
-have courage to look for new solutions;
-be willing to join other projects concerning tolerance in the future.

Experience gained in the project activities will be used in local and regional environment. Participants’ behaviour will influence the behaviour of their peers and family members and the International Day of Tolerance (celebrated even after the project) will strengthen positive attitude of people.
