Project Summary

MY STORY MAP is a strategic partnership for innovationproject having the duration of 2 years proposed. It has been proposed by the PIAGET-DIAZ high school a network of partners from France (Pistes-Solidaires), Spain (Mundus), Belgium (Eurogeo) Austria (die Berater) and Italy (Replay Network) who have a strong diversity of expertise in the field of education, vocational training, adult education and non-formal education activities for young people.

MY STORY MAP project has the dual objective of:

• motivating drop out youngsters in coming back in training
• prevent early school leaving

These objectives will be implemented by the method of digital storytelling with maps. 100 young people who have interrupted their schooling will have the opportunity to participate in training (non formal education) to gain digital skills necessary to experience a different way to express themselves, putting in a story map their own experience, the reasons for their choice, the conditions that influeced it (family, social and economic issues, etc …), as well as the consequences that this can have in their daily lives. Through the story maps they will have the opportunity to take distance from their own situation and to evaluate alternative directions, including the possibility of resuming the interrupted path or to change and follow better their attitudes. These stories written and recorded are then presented in schools and youth organizations to young people at drop out risk , in order to prevent them from taking the same decision.
With this method, 100 students at risk of dropping out, within their classgroup, will participate in a school laboratory, maturing so that digital skills necessary to become protagonists and bearers of knowledge to peers, helping the teacher at any given time in the educational program and contributing to the learning of the entire group. In the school environment, the potentialities of the classgroup amplify the positive effects of self-narration and this has a positive impacts on their motivation to learn, reconsidering their skills and potential.

For this purpouse, 7 intellectual outputs will be developed during MY STORY MAP project (IO):

I.O.1: Study: Telling digital stories to fight against early school leaving
I.O.2: Learning Module: how to tell a (life)story
I.O.3: Learning Module: media production skills

I.O.5: StoryWall: online exhibition and campaign
I.O.6: Learning Module: preventing early school leaving with story maps

It will be also implement an international training course for trainers targeted at teachers / educators / youth workers who will use MY STORY MAP method within the schools involved in the project as associate partners and in IIS Piaget-Diaz in Italy.

At the end of the project 4 national dissemination events will take place (France, Austria, Belgium, Spain) and 1 transnational dissemination event will be realised in Italy.
The project aims to develop and test an educational strategy based on the pedagogical use of digital storytelling and digital maps to involve young people again into learning activities and, using the output products, to prevent other young people from taking the decision to early leave the education and training system .
The project develops a cross-sectoral strategic approach that can be adopted and implemented by schools, vocational training institutions, centers for lifelong learning, youth centers and youth organizations, aiming at integrate the social innovation in education.
