CONTEXT
People who are in a disadvantaged situation suffer consequences that go beyond the simple fact of covering their basic needs: they are in a situation of isolation and loneliness, of which they find very difficult to be able to leave it for themselves.
OBJECTIVES
The primary objective has been to deepen, progress and disseminate knowledge in the theory and experience of the use of pedagogical instruments and techniques.
A secondary objective has been to put together the different work systems of the professionals, checking, collating and contrasting, and forming in them for later use them in unusual circumstances.
NUMBER AND PROFILE OF PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS
Three have been the entities that have collaborated to make this project possible.
Asociación Servicio Capuchino de Cooperación al Desarrollo-Aragón (Spain) has coordinated the proceedings. Through the Centro Social San Antonio it channels the great effort of the Capuchins and of many people of their environment in favour of the most excluded people.
Andirivieni Società Cooperativa Sociale di Type A (Italy) aims to guarantee educational action through professionalism and continuity of intervention, stimulating personal development and social integration of citizens, with special attention to vulnerable groups.
Verbund sozialkultureller Migrantenvereine in Dortmund, VMDO e.V (Germany) provides support in the protection of minors and advice to the elderly, as well as advice on professional development and labour market projects for professional integration.
MAIN ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT
Unusual techniques for each entity were experimented, which allowed checking which techniques were the most appropriate with a particular group. With this a musical base, lyrics and choreography were elaborated which, along with the videos recorded in various sessions, served to assemble a short film. Finally, the work methodology of the proven techniques and tools was compiled. The three international travels carried out served to enhance cooperation among partners.
In addition, in Spain, a two-day event was organized for professionals and the public.
RESULTS AND IMPACT ACHIEVED
RESULTS ACHIEVED
As a qualitative result, the greater knowledge on the techniques of music therapy by the teams highlights. The professionals have exchanged the work methodology and the techniques experienced, providing to this transnational project a mutual enrichment.
In addition, the application of music therapy has served to give greater emotional stability, helping users to identify their emotions, being able to express them and acquire new skills, which have allowed them to make the necessary changes to continue their healing and improve their socio-labour reinsertion.
In Spain the experience lived by the beneficiaries has culminated in the performance of a live show facing an unknown audience for them, being able to overcome their fears and insecurities and thus supposing them an empowerment.
IMPACT ACHIEVED
The impact has been appreciated throughout the entire process, both in the users and in the professionals themselves who have carried out the exhaustive follow-up of the participants.
This has confirmed significant changes experienced by the beneficiaries: awareness of their own capacities and difficulties, both internal and external, and increase of their self-esteem and empowerment. This awareness and acceptance have given them the wings to take the reins of their lives with greater autonomy in the search for employment and in the valuation of the importance of training (informal and non-formal) as a mean to achieve it, as well as in the professionals, in which the acquisition of training in music therapy techniques applied to socially excluded populations has left an important mark.
With regard to the partners, the dissemination activities have produced very positive effects on public opinion, of recognition and appreciation, not only of the project itself but also of the rigor with which the different entities have worked.
Other entities have expressed the validity of this tool, and have thanked that in Spain its presentation has been so practical and plastic. The entities continue to place their trust in us deriving us users to the project.
LONG-TERM BENEFITS
The sessions have contributed to the inner tranquillity of the users and to that, through this non-formal and informal education, they can overcome their limitations.
Teachers and volunteers have helped to lead people to a path of physical and psychological improvement.
