Project Summary

The ageing of the population, the difficulty of obtaining a first job and the high rate of youth unem-ployment represent major concerns for the Member States of the European Union, whether from a social or economic perspective.

In this context, the project Erasmus + strategic partnerships for adult education “VASIE” – Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity in Europe – aimed to (i) promote the active role of older people in society, thus enabling them to maintain physical, mental and social well -being, (ii) enable cooperation and exchanges between young and older people to foster development, acquisition and enhancement of competences transferable in professional situations or in associations.

Thus, 7 organizations working in the field of training, animation, guidance and counselling, from 7 European countries, collaborated for 2 years (2015 -2017) to develop a learning and exchange-based device. This device could be used throughout Europe by organizations working with young-sters and seniors, willing to develop social competences.

To do so, partners first conducted a research on the needs of the target group. This research re-sulted in the elaboration of the specifications for the learning device. Then, based on the specifica-tions, partners developed content with the help of young people and seniors. Modelling and ex-perimentation of the learning device focused on 3 groups of competences: (i) adaptation to the environment; (ii) communication & Information and Communication Technologies; (iii) reinsurance. The learning device took the form of 3 Collective Intergenerational Sessions.

A total of 519 young people and seniors, spread over 7 European countries, tested and evaluated VASIE learning device. Once the device was validated, partners finalized VASIE teaching kit consist-ing of a handbook, a trainer’s guide, evaluation questionnaires, a handbook of social competences tackled and a certificate of attendance.

VASIE kit can be downloaded free of charge from the project website in the six languages of the partnership and in English (http://vasie.eu/en/). A virtual community of users has been created and allows anyone to share their VASIE experience (https://www.facebook.com/Active-Ageing-and-Intergenerational-Solidarity-in-EuropeVASIE-Project-1608834419445507/).
