Project Summary
Enjoy a Healthy Lifestyle (EHL) is born as a reaction to the need of solving the problems concerning health our students show related to diet and physical exercise. New technologies and stressful rhythm of life have contributed to create a more sedentary society, with the appearance of eating disorders we had never thought about in previous decades. This issue is so noticeable in all our schools that we have felt the need to share knowledge and experiences with our partners at a European dimension.
We feel that our task as educators is to support the actions other professionals in this field are carrying out according to the WHO recommendations. Not only will our nearly 100 students be involved in this project but also an important amount of teachers, families, professionals and local authorities who are responsible for the correct development of our adolescents’ health.
The project will deal with 4 main topics:
École Privée Louis Brisson (Troyes-France) will work on Mindfulness and the impact stress and emotions have on our diet and physical activity,
Vicco von Bülow Gymnasium (Stahnsdorf) will develop Food Sources dealing with healthy food and its ecological origin
Scuola Leonardo da Vinci-Orazio Nucula (Terni) will explain about Metabolic Balance to provide students with scientific knowledge on nutrients and balanced meals
Institut Joan Solà (Torrefarrera) will complete the project with Cardiovascular Training, in which the pupils will learn to value the benefits of physical activity and how they improve the individual’s self-esteem.
The activities will combine theory and active practice: experts will advise the participants on the main frame of each content block workshop so that the students can have a clear vision and understanding of what being healthy means. The acquisition of this expertise will be supported by the practice in the execution of the designed activities .
ICT tools will also be an important ingredient in the process of the project as our pupils will be using eTwinning platform to share activities and results. This platform will serve as a preparatory base to work on the content of the mobilities to come and as a means of deciding and clarifying any doubts the partners may have. All the projects actions will therefore be collected and reported on the platform. Assessment will be carried out by means of an initial, mid-term and and final questionnaires which will show the degree of implication the participants have developed along the project; together with these, they will also be asked to fill in some monthly registers to record their progress on the introduction of diet and physical exercise habits changes. The questionnaires and registers will be handled digitally and their results will be collected and analysed using these tools.
Bearing all this in mind, our main concern is to boost a change in diet and physical exercise habits in our target pupils so that they can encourage other people to follow their example and experience an improvement on their health which can be noticeable in the future. This implies another challenge: the introduction of the changes within the curriculum in the School Education Project which we are planning. The obtained results will help us decide the path to follow in subsequent years.
