Project Summary
We perceive the world of education through the prism of global processes, therefore the development of the education system cannot be viewed in isolation from global trends. Along with greater access to the global labor market, graduates compete with their peers from other countries for jobs. Schools must prepare students for personal and professional activity in the international space – real and virtual. This development of competences is crucial if we want to eliminate the differences in the development of civilization and compete on international markets.
The nature of the project “Mathematica regina omnium scientiarum et – learning path to success” – its interdisciplinary and multi-faceted nature, in its assumptions referred primarily to mathematics and its relations with the natural sciences, information techniques and foreign languages. The main goal of the project was to increase the key competences of 100 students aged 12-15 in the field of mathematics and science at a level that would give them adequate preparation for further study in these areas.
We assumed that thanks to the implementation of the project, the students ‘interest in the world of science and technology will increase, the motivation to learn, teach, train and develop teachers’ competences in the field of modern, active teaching methods.
The activities envisaged in the project concerned students and teachers. During the project implementation, the participants learned about learning strategies, developed the ability to read and listen comprehensively, and to create written and oral statements and self-presentation. They learned how to deal with stress. Thanks to the exchange of experience of the staff during project working meetings and dissemination of good practices, the participants contributed to the reduction of educational differences and gained the opportunity to introduce innovative forms and methods of teaching in their home schools.
Discussions and workshops, aimed at raising the qualifications of teachers involved in the implementation of the project in various fields – related to the didactics of the subject and educational work, related to working with students with specific educational needs and cooperation with parents, played a significant role in achieving the objectives of the project. Integration and development of participants’ communication skills were facilitated by joint educational and experimental activities, as well as field games and activities.
As the language of communication between the partners was English, the people involved developed their language competences. Such activities, thanks to the use of modern techniques, tools and teaching methods, prevented school failures and early leaving. We assumed that in the future they will serve to continue education at a higher level, which is in line with the EU’s Europe 2020 strategy.
Therefore, the project responded to the needs of students and the local labor market, but also referred to the requirements of the teaching staff. It improved the quality and effectiveness of education, which had a direct impact on improving the quality of the school’s work. Thanks to the planned trainings, which served the professional development of teachers involved in the project, innovative solutions appeared in schools from different parts of Europe.
Three of the partners had experience in the implementation of the Comenius project, which allowed for more effective work and project management, and was used to improve the quality of this project. The invitation to cooperation of a school that had never participated in a similar campaign before allowed to avoid routine and allowed the use of new solutions and possibilities.
Each of the partners prepared trainings for teachers as part of short training programs for employees, thanks to the methods used in them, we enriched our workshop.
We planned and achieved a wide range of impact of the project during its duration and after its completion. Activities organized under the project were addressed to: school communities, supporting institutions, other educational institutions, research centers, workplaces, other supporting institutions or possible sponsors, especially those obtained for the dissemination of the project results after the end of funding.
The implementation of the project increased the interest in other cultures in the context of the European Union among students and teachers and made it possible to prepare students for the role of citizens of a multinational, multicultural and multilingual European society.
The implementation of the project also allowed to consolidate the network of contacts with teachers of mathematics and natural sciences and foreign languages in other European Union countries as well as with other schools, undertaking new projects for students. One of them is another Erasmus + project “Small steps to a big goal – what can I do for the Earth?”, In which the 2 existing partners take part.
