Project Summary
Globalization, of course, does more than simply increase the availability of foreign-made consumer products and disrupt traditional producers. It is also increasing international trade in cultural products and services, such as movies, music, and publications. The expansion of trade in cultural products is increasing the exposure of all societies to foreign cultures. And the exposure to foreign cultural goods frequently brings about changes in local cultures, values, and traditions. Although there is no consensus on the consequences of globalization on national cultures, many people believe that a people’s exposure to foreign culture can undermine their own cultural identity.
The project Locus – (Local Cultures – will they extinct?) is a partnership between three countries – Bulgaria, Germany and Portugal, which aims to analyze precisely the importance of cultural manifestations in each of the countries. Should we be exposed to foreign cultures ? Should local cultures let themselves be assimilated? Has globalization led to greater cultural understanding? Has globalization helped to improve human connections?
These and other questions will be aimed at. We wish the students to discuss whether local cultures will extinct or if there is a need to preserve them and defend them from external influences.
The students will work on the topic of cultural heritage, developing their competence in foreign language and achieving outcomes during project work, which are not possible in classroom context.
