Project Summary

The project titled “Carpe librum:The school library and the communication skills through the study of Literary and Cultural Relations between Greece and Spain.” involves two Secondary Schools, one of them located in a new neighborhood of Zaragoza, Spain , and the other in Thessaloniki, Greece, and a Vocational School located in Thessaloniki, Greece, that feel the need to promote the role of the school library and find paths of pedagogical innovation.
This project emerged because has been detected in the three centres a need to strengthen the role of the school library and a need to encourage reading inside et outside the classroom to boost the literacy and communication skills.
Our project is centered on the school library and its work as a promoter and coordinator of all the activities of the center related to the practice of certain methodological strategies and the development of key skills, especially those related to reading and writing, as well as interdisciplinary agent of educational support and of educational coordinator among all the content areas. The project aims to transform the school library into a future classroom with a place for the students to meet to carry out projects, to record videos with chroma key, to make debates, with a place of exhibition of the projects etc … This basic target will be worked through an interdisciplinary study of the relationship between Greece and Spain throughout history. This study will cover all cultural aspects: language, literature, history, art, technology, science… and it will be worked in several content areas using the project-based methodology. With the aim of dynamizing the library will also be created the figure of pupil librarian assistant and pupils’ reading clubs will be organized to comment common readings and select poems for the library section: “Bibliorestaurant. Poetry to take away”.As a big number of the students, especially the ones from the Greek schools, come from different countries and cultures we will put as an aim of this project the fact that the library will become a place of exchanging ideas, a place of consent, respecting each others differences and finally integration of those students in school and society.
The first target group of the project are students between 15 and 17 years old and secondarily the entire educational community: students, teachers and their parents.
