Project Summary

The main motive behind “Socializing Through Learning Together and Exchanging Project” is the need to transfer the knowledge of our students from both partner schools gained by theoretically and with limited practice on linguistic skills, to practice in its real cultural diversity and alive lifecycle. While Our school has students who are mostly from different cultural backgrounds who uses English as a daily language and their mother tounge (mostly Turkish)with limited practice, the students of our partner school takes intensive foreign lanuage courses (English, Arabic) and needs interaction in real communicative environments.
This project mainly focuses on the active learning environments both for pupils and their teachers in which interaction and communication comes to the fore in acquisition of basic skills and some key competences. In order to acquire the required key competences which are naturally effecting each other we intend to train our teachers’ and students’ abilities to socialize in both the virtual world and in reality and in addition increase their communicative strategies through a series of combination of upto date technological implementaitons and traditional simple but strong methods.
Our approach will basically be Communicative Language Learning Approach which is based on the idea that learning language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning.
The project aims at reaching the objectives of developing linguistic skills through participation in team activities shared with partner school, developing the students social skills and abilities, developing communicative and active teaching skills of the teachers, promoting intercultural awareness by acting in different cultural contexts, helping gain a greater understanding of both sides and promotion of being more respectful to the rights of others in both real life and virtual enviorenments.
We expect our students and teachers to develop their communication skills, linguistic skills through Communicative Language Learning, to be able to to behave accordingly with communication etiquette both in real and virtual communication, to use daily expressions from real life in foreign language and to use the mother tongue correctly and more effectively.
These will be realised with a series of activites which will be done first locally and shared virtaully with participation of the whole school and then as a transnational activity by short term exchanges of groups of pupils and joint staff trainings from both schools. There will be 6 transnational activity. Two of them will be for teachers and 4 of them will be for students. 5 teachers will attend to each 3 days joint staff tarinings and 19 students and their accompanying teachers from each school will attend the 5 days short term exchanges of groups of pupils.
These activities will cover both in class activites and extra curricular activities. They will mainly consist of 5 steps:
1- Knowing each other activity. This will be a treasure hunt game , geocaching wiill be done using GPS-Ipad/mobil to build teamwork and a feeling of belonging to a group; the Erasmus family”. (PE, geography, English, ICT will be included in this activity)
2-” Shoot a video” – the students will make a video getting the same instructions but having different outcomes. This activity will aim to strengthen cooperation, tolerance. (Mother tongue, music, English, ICT, other languages)
3- Traditional games which were replaced by modern games and some of which have already been forgotton like “playing marble, nine stones etc.” These will be decided together beforehand by both school and clear instrucitons will be taught to students before playing
4-“Film reading ” Use of reciprocal teaching when watching a film – we will share the same study guide and will have group discussions on Skype about similarities, differences, religion, refugees etc. (English, ICT/Skype, mother tongue)
5- “Role model”: the students will be inspired to write about an important person in their life. To inspire to and reinforce good behaviour regardless of background. This will be a written work done Individually or in small groups and will be shared (History, English, Social sciences, ICT)
Within Short term joint staff trainings, participants will be trained on Active Learning, different learning and teaching methodologies including Communicative Language Teaching, Brain-based learning which covers attention theraphy and attention training. In both schools there are qualified trainers equipped with some of these and they will be on board.
