Project Summary

The project ‘ the balanced development as the alternative for future’ involves the cooperation of six
European schools from Poland- Lublin, Germany – Cologne, Greece – Litochoro,
Hungary – Budapest and Italy – Cles. These are all high schools. The coordinator is I LO im. St.
Staszica in Lublin. The cooperation will take place between students and teachers during mobilities
and the workshops of teachers of foreign teachers. About 300 students and 30 students will
participate in the project. The students will analyse the issue of balanced development and, closely
linked with it, environment protection. Thanks to the mobilities they will be able to compare this issue
in different countries and they will work on different aspect of the problem in each country.
In Poland the focus will be on nature reserves and their impact on the balance of ecosystems and
also learning about their wealth of fauna and flora. The second important aspect is waste
management. Students will find out about the nature reserves functioning around big cities also in
Madrid and Budapest. In Cologne and Budapest the students will focus on the issue of water
resources in different aspects, beginning with the historic significance of rivers for establishing cities
and ending with the temporary rational use of water resources and their protection.
The students will also learn about the organisations promoting slow lifestyle, opposing the pursuit of
material wealth. They will find out more about the natural environment of humankind and the need to
preserve its wealth for the future generations, they will also acquire the skills of team work also
international), critical thinking, dealing with difficult situations, leadership skills, doing interviews,
editing texts and using new technologies. They will also improve their language skills( English,
German and Spanish).
Undeniably, they will develop the ecological, researching and creative approach open to diversity,
reacting against discrimination and stereotypes , deprived of phobias promoting civic engagement
and creative way of spending free time. First hand experience of multicultural Europe and getting to
know the European peers is also an important aspect of the project.
During the project students will work using interesting, alternative methods of work, such as
experiment method, educational pathways, city and nature reserve rallies, presentations, videos,
interviews, editing for publishing a book and many others.
The results of the book ( video, book and photos) will appear on the schools websites, on the special
platform of the project, Facebook, other social websites and also by word of mouth, photo
exhibitions. We are planning to create school gardens as a permanent result of the project . The
influence of the project will be visible both locally and internationally . It will be a great example of
how to break barriers, promote sustainable, international cooperation.
As the framework of the project teacher exchange and good practice sharing (jod shadowing) is
planned. The permanent outcome of it will be additional materials to teach foreign languages or even economical, technical subjects offered
to teachers of all participating schools and also uploaded onto platforms for other teachers of foreign
languages.
