Project Summary
As mathematical competence has become an undispensable issue for personal fulfilment, active citizenship, social inclusion and employability in modern society, there are growing needs for mathematical skills and proficiency in modern society and at the same time difficulties in learning maths and a large number of low achieving students due to the complex nature of maths and its learning complexities, present educational systems needs modern strategies for teaching and learning maths for students especially in elementary schools. These modern strategies should require a high-quality, challenging and accessible teaching and learning environment for learners and the goals of maths teaching should meet students’ mathematical needs of the twenty-first century. With regard to these conditions, students’ mathematics achievement can be increased using modern methods such as drama, games and animations having positive effects on student achievement, attitude and creativity and new multidisciplinary approaches such as STEM, Singapore Maths as they help them analyze, evaulate and interpret the problems via social interaction. Thus, these methods serve multiple dimensions: the students’ arts education, social and emotional development and the support of the teaching of other cognitive subjects like language, history,mathematics. That’s why the project named as “Maths:Real or Fiction “aims to exchange the best innovative and communicative teaching and learning practices on maths education. The project consists of six different partners from three different countries: Spain, Italy and Turkey. Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of National Education from Turkey is the coordinator of the project. There are two transnational short-term training events.
