Project Summary

The project seeks to foster cooperation and exchanges of good practices in the field of human rights education between programme countries and partner countries. Through the project activities, the partners seek to improve the quality of youth work in the respective countries by incorporating or improving the dimension and use of human rights education by youth workers. To this end, the project partners will develop an open educational platform with a variety of tools, activities as well as supportive material in the realm of human rights education that can be used by youth workers in the respective countries. This will serve to facilitate the access to the relevant material as it will be an open educational resource bringing the main tools that exist within the sphere of human rights education, including handbooks and online games. Moreover, by providing supportive material such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as an overview of several rights and freedoms and related principles, youth workers who may not have a background in human rights will be able to use this platform as a library to enrich their knowledge on human rights and subsequently become empowered to work within the sphere of human rights education. The platform (general content, instructions and supportive material) will be available in English, Greek, Filipino, Spanish and French. The majority of tools are available in English or French but, where applicable they will be uploaded in the language version of the platform. There will also be a round-table discussion in each country with policy makers, representatives of the formal and non-formal educational sector as well as youth groups and organisations, for purposes of discussing the significance of human rights education in both formal and non-formal educational settings and advocating for steps and measures to be taken along a variety of levels, for purposes of promoting and facilitating the recognition and adoption of human rights education by groups, organisations and institutions. This will occur within the framework of the Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights in relation to the European countries participating and, in the cases of Cameroon and the Philippines, the partners will utilise the Charter as a good practice template upon which the respective countries can build upon for purposes of recognising, implementing and promoting the use of human rights education. During this activity the online platform will be presented to participants. There will be a transnational non-formal learning mobility between programme and partner countries during which participants will learn about the objectives and methods of human rights education. The participants will be youth workers of the partner organisations and, where possible and applicable, efforts will be made to integrate persons with fewer opportunities.
