Project Summary

The scope of application of this project is I.E.S. Sierra de Guara, located in the city of Huesca. Huesca is a city that because of its geographical location, is integrated into a privileged natural environment, which favors activities in the natural environment. Similarly, it has numerous green areas, play spaces, sports facilities and an extensive network of bike lanes.
The city of Tarbes was chosen as a partner for this project because it is a city with very similar characteristics in terms of size and economic and social level. Besides being two twin cities for 50 years.
The center where the proposal is contextualized is a public center that houses the stage of secondary, high school and various training cycles of medium and higher. It is located in a central district, which has leisure spaces and commercial activity. In the family environment, families with an average socioeconomic status stand out. However, in recent years, many families have suffered the consequences of the crisis and their economic situation has worsened, sometimes in a very significant way. For some years now there has been a progressive increase of immigrant students and cultural minorities (29 nationalities) who begin their studies in Secondary Education in the center. The center is integrated and participates within the Aragonese Network of Health Promoting Schools (RAEPS) and the Aragonese Network of Health Projects (RAPPS) since it is granted from the educational community a great importance to the development of healthy lifestyles.

The literature indicates that the school environment is considered a privileged environment to address projects promoting healthy habits. Therefore, the main objective of the project is to provide students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle throughout their lives. Other important objectives are to create a more active environment in the school center with the participation of all the agents of the educational community; develop competences that favor autonomy in aspects of individual and collective organization of physical-sporting activities; encourage participation in physical and sports activities in and outside school hours; promote a transcultural background to promote common actions in the promotion of healthy habits among the youth of Huesca and Tarbes.
The activities that have been carried out during the mobilities have been especially based on hiking through the “Roads of the Pyrenees” or visiting cultural heritage of the two regions. Mainly because these roads are those that have united the two participating countries since always and we thought that it could be very interesting for teenagers to know them while they were doing physical activity. It is also a sport that everyone can do autonomously and economically, sometimes almost without realizing it visiting museums, castles, …
There have also been traditional games and careers to encourage the autonomy of students. It has been encouraged to participate in popular races organized in the city of Huesca.
The impact can be seen at different levels:
– The impact on students:
     * They have realized that it is not necessary much effort to reach the levels advised by the WHO and the importance of physical exercise.
     * There has been an increase in interest in participating in exchanges, knowing the culture of the neighboring country and other educational systems.
– The impact on teachers:
     * Greater interdepartmental relationship:
     * Increased interest in knowing other educational systems and other ways of working.
– The impact in the center:
     * Relationships are established between the institutions that perpetuate collaboration in projects.
     * Internationalization of the center.
– The impact on the city:
     * Receptions of the city councils of both cities.
     * Publications in press

In the long term, we believe that relations between the two centers can be perpetuated, that fun recesses and participation in sports activities promoted by other institutions can continue. Through these actions, it is also intended to facilitate the inclusion of students at risk of exclusion due to social or economic issues.
