Project Summary

A “European School around the World, ESAW, is a project focused on the creation of a sense of belonging to the European Union through the knowledge of different cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds ranges and the promotion and re-evaluation of local traditions and cultures through different and sometimes far European countries.
The idea has been to support students with the right skills and knowledge for the creation of a European school travel agency with special attention to cultural tourism. Each country has been partner and tour operator of this mock agency. The project created a direct link between the schools and the world of jobs aimed at promoting creativity, innovation, work-based learning and entrepreneurship by offering relevant learning opportunities, including developing new curricula and pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning (storytelling and content marketing).
Thanks to the creation of a European school travel agency we helped students to become aware of job prospects and build those entrepreneurial skills that are difficult to build only with the theoretical lessons. Moreover, the project promoted a wider use of IT technologies directly linked to the needs of enterprises (tourism application, website, social network, creation of e-catalogue, e-brochure, etc.) and job seeking.
The cooperation among students and teachers from six very different countries, each with very different languages, reinforced plurilingualism as well, as all languages were used in this project of course added to English, that is the vehicular language.
The project involved students (16-18 years old) and teachers of 5 secondary school and two agencies.
The main objectives reached have been:
– the creation of a mock Entrepreneurship and the building of an entrepreneurial skill in the participating students
– developed new, innovative and multidisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning
– promoted the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for learning and related digital competences
– improved the teaching and learning of languages and promote the Union’s broad linguistic diversity and intercultural awareness
– learnt to learn
– increased language competences among learners
– promoted the use of Content and Language Integrated Learning
– fostered multidisciplinary and inter-disciplinary approaches
– promoted Diversity of Cultural Expressions
– helped students to become aware of job prospects
– promoted leadership, teamwork, collaboration, cooperation
– promoted the professional development of the staff by acquiring project management skills through project work, sharing best teaching practices and getting to know different school systems
-reduced disparities in learning outcomes affecting learners from disadvantaged backgrounds, with fewer opportunities, including learners with disabilities;
– incentivized the citizenship and the feeling of belonging to Europe
The project led to a number of results and outcomes such as increase of language competences; development of the relationship-wise abilities; increase the self-entrepreneurship; approach the world of work; increase study motivation.
The activities have included the following steps:
– creating a project logo
– creating a mock enterprise: we established a transnational tourist-cultural cooperative agency
– teachers participated in storytelling workshops to bring back fresh learning/input to share with students
– each country analyzed its territory in order to advertise it
– hand out of questionnaires
– creation of tourist itineraries by each country
– realization of tourist packages
– creating an e-platform, where the participants of all institutions will be able share their experiences
-regular access to the common e-platform in order to share the results and ideas and various materials
– creating a multimedia application-travel guide using the Java programming language
-carrying out training workshops for the creation of travel guide
– use of Travel Agency App and multimedia application-travel guide
-creation of brochures and a common e-book of all the materials produced
– creation of website that has become the vehicle of all the products
The final product has been the realization of guidelines containing the structure for the creation of a transnational cultural and tourist agency (OER) useful to other schools to put in place the main idea of it.
The project involved participants from different countries across Europe and the results of the common work had impact not only on local level, but also on regional, national and European ones. The project promoted effective direct links between the schools and local companies. It has also impacted on students, teachers and school institutions, local communities. As a result of the project activities, students became more aware of their abilities and the way they can spend them after school. Schools took advantage of all the results published on the project website.
