Project Summary
Context/background of the project:
Migration has always been an important aspect and defining element of different cultures in the world. And still today, the world is on the move.
Reasons for migration are, for example, the economic or political situation of the country of origin or destination; own safety; work and education; and family and friends. Leaving the home country can be the only option or a potential solution for a better life.
In Europe, its principles and policies are challenged by increased movement of migrants, on how to share the responsibility and integrate them into the societies. In addition, Europe has become more unequal and divided, with big differences in unemployment as well as social and economic opportunities. High unemployment and unsecure futures push especially young people to try and find new opportunities in another country. Mobility is one of the core values of Europe. Therefore, new methods and tools are needed in order to get a better understanding of the root causes of migration and include migrants in the society and the labour market.
Objectives:
The aim of the EU-funded project Innovative inclusion/integration of young migrants and refugees into the labour market in Europe was to:
• Examine what pushes and pulls young people to migrate;
• Analyse the labour market inclusion or exclusion of young migrants;
• Approach the cultural differences and norms in the countries’ labour market and in the social life.
As an outcome, a Toolbox was created for individuals, social partners, non-profit organisations and the public sector, to guide:
• WHY people are on the move and why it is important to understand the differences between the European countries in cultures, social systems and working life;
• WHAT people shall consider before moving abroad, and what organisations shall know about migration and can do to get them integrated;
• HOW people can get relevant information about different countries prior to migrating and how the organisations can take part in the integration process.
Number and profile of participating organizations:
We were six participating organizations, FIC, 3F, Dev-Aid, GEOECO-POL, Ofensiva Tinerilor and Solidar, from four countries, namely, Denmark, Romania, Albania and Belgium. The organizations are a mix of NGOs, Trade unions and Networks.
Description of undertaken main activities:
As mentioned, we have conducted an analysis on the push and pull factors for migration and an analysis of the inclusion/ exclusion of migrants into the labor market. These analysis’s have been made into reports, from Albania, Denmark and Romania. Further, the analysis has resulted in a Toolbox webpage, where migrants or organizations/institutions dealing with migrants can seek advice and information about migration and the needed integration. Additionally, a tv-program has been made, which raises the main issues in regard to migration and tells some personal stories of migrants from Albania and Romania, and migrants living in Denmark.
Results and impact attained:
There have been a strong impact on the participating partner organisations. The cooperation among us have become stronger, and will be beneficial in future projects. We have learned from each other. We have all learned about migrants realities, through our interviews with them.As an inspiration from this project the participating partneres have set up own national activities with given inspiration from this project. As an examble the Danish leading Partner FIC have initiated a national project “Together though we are different” based on migrants living in Denmark, which have been a direct results ant initiated by this project. Similar activitees have taken place i other partner orgaisations.
Our internal and external communication have improved substaintially.
If relevant, longer-term benefits:
The long term benefits will for sure be the use of the digital platform, which were created in the last period of the project, and will be beneficiary not only for the partners but for other NGO´s, stakeholders and individuals.
