Project Summary
The work of the six schools of our project entitled „Ancient heritage meets modern researchers” (acronym: AMOR) focussed on different heritage phenomena of our countries/regions and on their today’s impact and relevance for responsible and sustainable living.
Each country was in charge of chosing two of its main heritage items and of presenting them to the whole group with the aim to motivate our students to appreciate and protect their heritage and to value its interest for our nowaday’s life.
Some of the intended results differ or miss because of the corona situation. During the four meetings we could held and to which always all countries were represented by a delegation, the contents of the 2 heritage items were presented to the participants through different methods (presentations, discovery games, round tables, expert interventions etc). Once familiar with the topics participants delt with them again by doing interviews on the topics with their partner (“expert”) students. The interviews were filmed and are our most important final result of the cooperation.
Another branche of our project was the work on the scientific research on different UNESCO related topics. Each country had chosen a different aspect (such as its history, its members and its activities but also the dangers it is exposed to in our current times) and on each of our finally 4 active meetings one of the topics was delt with, sometimes through workshops or presentations, sometimes through interactive games.
On each meeting an IT workshop in a different field was held in order to improve IT competences of all participants.
Last but not least each of the participating schools for sustainability reasons had to take in charge one heritage item in their surroundings in order to adopt responsability and to get involved actively.
Besides these main activities organised on each meeting other formal or informal activities were held according to the local situation. E.g. the visit of the European Parliament done from Germany contributed to a better understanding of and a stronger relationship towards the EU. The visit tothe archeological site of Bibracte organised by the French team led to a deaper understanding of ancient times, The workshop on Customs and Traditions done by the Spanish team and the one on Sylbo Gomero, die Pfeifsprache, allowed learning through a lot of fun. And finally the different outings to places like tuna and olive factories or listening to a Fado concert sealed the international group close together through the shared positive moments.
As students were hosted in guest families in all countries, intercultural knowledge and personal friendship were promoted. This was very much appreciated on all sides, students and adults alike and helped spread the contents of the project to a wider range of people including the local
community.
