Project Summary
The 3 countries involved in this project are different, in terms of cultures, languages and sports, we are separated by borders and the sea. And yet at the same time, we share common educational values, we all work in favour of the social integration of all teenagers. Although our three schools teach students of the same ages, each school has their characteristics. For example, the French school is located in an urban area whereas the Irish school in situated in the countryside, at the center of a small village.
We all are secondary schools offering general, technological and vocational education. Our students are aged between 14 to 21 years old, boys and girls.
Our common objective was for our students to find out the sports taught in our partner countries. Through the discovery and practice of these sports, the goal was also for students to communicate in English, or French (our two common languages), so as to exchange about their cultures.
20 students (per year) from each school took part in this project. They were aged around 16/17 years old, approximately 10 boys and 10 girls with different school and language levels. Some students were sporty while others had limited physical capacities and even disabilities.
Once selected, the students started communicating (via mails and reports) about different subjects involving the other countries (such as geography, history, economy, famous people, educational systems, food, sport). Then, videos were created to show and explain the sports chosen by each country (step for France, softball for the Netherlands and hurling for Ireland).
During the meetings, a lot of different activities were organized by each partner (sport, culture, education…) at school, in the nature and in the town centers.
A final video was made to summarize all the activities that took place during the project.
At the end of the project, the students have improved in languages, thanks to all the communication activities that took place. They are ready to participate in other projects abroad (whether for holidays or an internship). They feel more open to other European cultures and ways of life. They have discovered sports that are not taught in their countries. Some of them are still in touch with their fellow participants on a regular basis.
