Project Summary

The main aim pursued by SKILLMAN, the Sector Skills Alliance for Advanced Manufacturing in the Transport Sector, has been to establish a sustainable network of key players in the field of Advanced Manufacturing in the Transport Sector, facilitating interaction and cooperation among industrial partners, VET providers and awarding bodies in the perspective of detecting key skills shortages and providing innovative educational solutions.

SKILLMAN has implemented research activities to detect labour market requirements, both in terms of hard-to-fill vacancies as well as exploring emerging technologies affecting the sector of advanced manufacturing in the perspective of identifying their impact in terms of skills needs.

The outcomes of the research activities accomplished during the first contractual period have confirmed the priorities, which have become the focus of the project educational provisions. One of the key added values is the commitment of the partners and particularly of the industrial partners on the following educational dimensions:
• Robotics: programming and maintenance of automated production lines; main industrial partner for this priority is Jaguar Land Rover;
• Composite materials: default finding and maintenance of lightweight and composite materials, mainly within, but not limited to, the new generation of aircrafts; main industrial partner for this priority is Scandinavian Airlines Systems
• ICT in manufacturing: configuration and maintenance of hardware and software required by the digitalization of production processes, managing big data and internet of thing in automated production lines; main industrial partner for this priority is FIAT Research Centre
• energy performance of production processes and end products, as a common issue for all educational dimensions and industrial partners.

The main general objective to establish a sustainable network of key players in the field of Advanced Manufacturing in the Transport Sector has been totally accomplished: Skillman.eu has became the largest EU multilateral network addressed to introduce skills, competences and innovative curricula for the advanced manufacturing sector within the VET pathways.

The network is currently joined by more than 280 organizations from 48 countries worldwide and includes notable universities and research centre as well NGO and public bodies.
