Project Summary

Information technology is all around us – at work, home and on our mobiles. Communication networks and software systems are becoming more and more interconnected as we expect to access services and applications anywhere and anytime. Scientific and technological advances are therefore required to develop secure, reliable and trustworthy information and communication technology (ICT) systems and services. The goal of this strategic partnership was to respond to this challenge and to the increasing demand for specialists in the area of security, reliability and trust in information technology by exploring the possibility of developing an international joint Master’s programme in information security between the participating HEIs, all of which are leading institutions in this field. The partner institutions were the University of Luxembourg (Luxembourg), as project coordinator, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (Portugal), Warsaw University of Technology (Poland) and National Technical University of Ukraine – Igor Sikorsky Kiyv Polytechnic Institute (Ukraine).
In order to reach the project goal, the project leaders closely collaborated in carrying out a feasibility study for such a joint curriculum, including the development of tables of conversion for grades and a model Memorandum of Understanding between the participating HEIs. Regular transnational project meetings were held to this effect, alternately in Luxembourg, Warsaw, Lisbon and Kiev, completemented by virtual meetings through online platforms.
In addition, three five-day Intensive Study Programmes took place with the participation of students and teaching staff from all the European partner institutions as well as teaching staff from the Ukrainian partner institution. The first ISP took place in Luxembourg in March 2015, the second one in Lisbon in April 2016 and the third and final one in Luxembourg in April 2017. These ISPs offered over 80 participating students the opportunity to benefit from the specific expertise of teachers/researchers from the partner HEIS and to work together in multinational groups.
