Project Summary

A Bridging Calendar for the Future “A B C for the Future”
A Bridging Calendar project allowed our students to learn about the past with an awareness of the present: being committed to preserving their Cultural Heritage in the future. It’s a different perspective and approach to cultural heritage. We strived to take learning out of regular lessons with an aspiration towards focusing on informal learning through the students’ experiences. Also, to transfer knowledge gained in school and apply it to real life. However, wedid not primarily want to focus on the past: We started with building the students’ sense of responsibility for their future legacy in order for them to have a sustainable future. Our wish was to show our students how we can be united and how to find a common European identity through cultural diversity. We made use of active and student-centred methodologies and innovative approaches e.g. CLIL, TBL, and Flipped learning. One of the essential methods was collaborative learning which the curricular priority of all four schools . Mobility was designed to be based on real experiences, events, festivals, authentic atmosphere and the culture of the place. We as teachers were able to sharpen our didactic skills through learning from one another. Lastly, utilizing the synergistic effect of the four schools working together since 2014 would enable us to go further in sharing our best practises within the Erasmus project.
Our main contribution to this project was to create awareness about how one generation’s destiny depends on the previous one´s decisions and how it is possible for the youngsters to influence the coming events. We aimed to help students to be able to recognize the mistakes of the past, analyze their impact in the present and make conclusions about what could be changed so that their heritage is good enough for them to lead healthy, full lives that enable them to leave a sustainable social and personal legacy for the next generation in their turn. We also were aware that this is too ambitious . To be realistic ,we delimited the fields of work to four:
Environment; Social Skills; Arts; Civics.
We created a working frame under the design of a Calendar for the future through which would connect past events with the current impact they are having while predicting their development. That’s why we called it “Bridging”.
The calendar serves as an umbrella for the entire project. It consists of 12 pages, due to the 12 months in a year. There are 4 seasons in a year which represent our 4 mobilities: Fight for freedom; Art, brain and emotion; Communithinking; Sustainable habits.
Also, every a significant date on it offers a message for good practices that can enable the making of good decisions affecting the lives of the European generations ahead.
The structure of one calendar page is: 1st part (upper part): Present-there are 3 pictures:
1. Students’ experiences gained during meetings.
2. Monument, festivity, etc. experienced during mobility.
3. Important personality related to the topic & our countries.
2nd Part,(central part): Past.- Regular calendar which includes also important dates (description on the back in four languages). Min. of 4 dates per month One per country 3rd Part(lower part): Future. 2 quotations connected to the topic created by students as a type of assessment + blank one to add reader´s idea.
