Project Summary
The project “ALL in One Hand” is focused on the development of pupils aged 12-15 with learning difficulties, disadvantages and special needs but also on improving mainstream students’ key competences such as tolerance and acceptance towards people facing economical, geographical, cultural and social obstacles. The teachers participating in the project will learn to deal with social, linguistic and cultural diversity in class, implement non formal learning methods into formal education, develop professionally, support their students’ life-skills thus ensuring their inclusion into the formal education system and in the communities they belong to.
Every year in all partner schools there are threats such as school drop-outs (pupils at risk – with disabilities or coming from disadvantaged backgrounds who do not feel motivated to come to school any more). There is also a lack of performance not only professionally, as future active professionals, but also personally, as active individuals of tomorrow’s society. Our project will provide the space to experiment, empower the pupils and staff, improve the pupil-parent-school partnership, raise awareness on a hot topic as integration of disadvantaged young people in school and to connect with stakeholders in order to facilitate the integration of pupils and to develop future initiatives.
Our project provides 5 international learning opportunities for 100 pupils from low income families, rural areas, with learning and behavior problems in order to develop their soft skills for an independent life, to make decisions, improve their skills to work in teams, improve their English, take action and encourage them to change their perception of the world in that diversity is not a drawback, tolerance is something everybody needs and cooperation is a key to achievement and success. The activities are channeled on 5 main topics: Inclusion through Sports, Art, Drama, Music and Dance, meant to provide attractive learning experience for students with disadvantages and special needs.
A short-term mobility for 25 teachers to develop their competences to integrate inclusive practices in class will give them the chance of conducting an awareness campaign for 1400 people- pupils, teachers, parents in the partner countries, to collect 6 non formal methods(for an electronic booklet)used to integrate the pupils with disadvantages and special needs in the formal environment and a book on “How to Reach and Teach ALL Children” with latest research, methods and techniques for an inclusive teaching approach.
Along the project our priorities are to:
– investigate the ways for a better inclusion at school- develop research and identify case studies and good practices on the topic
– reduce absenteeism and ESL
– develop a deeper awareness of diversity in classes and search for effective ways to cope with it
– focus on academic, social and emotional development of the students
– increase parental involvement in school activities and decisions- parents as an active part of the learning process are invited to dissemination activities and to actively take part in the project
– provide permanent learning by using new teaching techniques and methods- Forum Theater, GTKEO exercises, team building, facilitated discussions, world cafe, group reflections, sport events, art exhibitions, music and dance festivals and more
– provide greater understanding and appreciation of European cultures among children, staff and the wider community
– encourage students to be active citizens
– develop family–teacher–school relationships for the students’ success
– encourage teachers to develop their professionalism, leading to improved outcomes for pupils
– help encourage teachers to assess themselves about new teaching methods and develop their professionalism and lead to improved outcomes for pupils
– increase the teaching quality by creating a fun teaching-learning environment
– enable educators and students become more sensitive to the disadvantaged and disabled groups
– develop ICT skills of teachers and students – create movies, promotional materials, record testimonials and provide support to promote the project or to disseminate the project results
– improve English as a common language- the chance to express and support an idea in En, but also to learn different words in other 5 languages of the partners.
The project is an important milestone for the schools involved and will lead to:
– a more integrated learning approach in classroom
– increased participation of the target group pupils in the school curricular and extracurricular activities
– more competent teachers ready to tackle the challenges given by the educational environment in using inclusive teaching-learning methods and tools
Through both local and international activities we will enhance the access, participation and learning performance of disadvantaged learners, reducing disparities in education and making our schools more inclusive.
