Project Summary

Our three schools, French, Dutch and Spanish, have had partnerships for many years with various exchanges and projects. This KA2 project gave us the opportunity to further develop our educative propositions. Our starting point were our very diversity: geographical, cultural and social. Is Europe able to move beyond its differences to ensure peace to its citizens? We thought that if were aware of our differences, this would never be impediments but opportunities to grow. We thought that if our students improved their knowledge of Europe they would become European citizens , proud of their regional, national and European identity.
To address this issue we worked together on the making of a short film on the European identity. Thus we developed key skills for our pupils and teams. The work was realised in collaboration with Le Fresnoy, a national studio for contemporary arts, in the north of France. This short film was presented at a festival for high school students and gave further visibility to the Erasmus+ project and promoted our initial assumptions: Europe’s strength relies on its diversity and should be able to count on collaborations between countries to insure peace.
This project was implemented over three years and relied on 2 types of mobilities proposed in Erasmus + and KA2 school exchanges: 57 students realised short-term mobilities (one week) and long-term mobilities were realised by 7 students (two months) in total immersion in our partner schools. These mobilities was proposed, on equal motivation, to modest or large families.
Throughout the project each student will worked on Europe thanks to a “European club” . This club in a way co-piloted the project with the help and support of the staff who initially masterminded the project. The club met at least once a month to discuss current European news, European identity, prepared questions for the coming mobilities. They prepared the outline and the sequences of the storyboard. We also imagined on the walls of our schools, a collaborative wall with the latest news in Europe and the progress of the project of the short film. The European club was in charge of writing up guide on making a short film: https://www.canva.com/design/DAEhjFSqcKo/jt51rW1pdigNqBJSv6N_Rg/view?utm_content=DAEhjFSqcKo&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=sharebutton.
These activities had an impact on a lot of people (students and staff) and not only on participants. This collaborative work enabled students to develop their autonomy and a spirit of entrepreneurship and initiative. One of the aims of the project was to make students aware that they are part of the European Community and therefore encourage them to cross borders to study, work or even live in another country. The impact on participants was expressed by the fact that they learnt mutual respect, understood their respective cultures and religions, and worked together on a collaborative project about the European citizenship.
They gained from speaking a foreign language and presenting their opinion in public. They also developed methods which, thanks to the Internet, enabled them to quickly gather information. The management of the project was done on Google doc (Excel) so as to centralise information concerning the mobilities (participants, evaluation, budget management). Taking part in the project improved our educational offer, languages, intercultural and audio-visual skills of the participants. It also made our schools more innovative and attractive. We looked forward to motivating more pupils and staff on actions beyond our national borders.
