Project Summary
The project “Where do I come from? – Roots and roads to our common history” aims at pointing out mutual intercultural understanding and acceptance while helping students learn more about their own history and about the history of their partners. It will also reinforce the development of key-competences such as language learning, creativity and digital skills.
The knowledge of our common traits along with the preservation of our cultural heritage are some very important aspects in building a bright future for Europe through mutual understanding and acceptance and this is the reason why we would like to cooperate with educators from all around Europe, covering a great range of different cultures and various cultural approaches of everyday life in order to show that heritage is not static, but it evolves through engagement.
The idea for this project is to achieve the European priority (2018) concerning the preservation of Cultural Heritage. Building on previous experience on successful European cultural projects there is a strong motivation for our educational organizations to continue on the same fruitful track in order to broaden our transnational network of mutual influence and exchange of good educational practices with other schools and organizations. All four partners involved in this project are already collaborating in an eTwinning project. The students actively involved in short term meetings and hosting will be from 13 to 16 years old. Apart from the students who will benefit from the transnational meetings we will try involve the whole school. We will also take care of having equal gender representation in the project and we will give opportunities to students of low social profile as well. Students facing economic obstacles, educational difficulties and other social obstacles will be encouraged to participate in many activities of the programme.
The bonds that have been created between some of the schools during previous European projects will become stronger and deeper. New bonds will be created with the other partners in a climate of mutual understanding and respect. School organisations will exchange know-how and good practices at a European level and will expand their network; for this reason, we will foster our cooperation with headmasters and teachers of our school and we will involve them in the process of our cross-curricular project and the transnational meetings.
This project aims to help students to learn important characteristics of their own culture and would like to underline the importance of preserving own cultural heritage in an enjoyable way. Moreover, students will start learning about other cultures by collaborating with their European peers, and as a result they will gain a more holistic idea about history and culture. They will understand the invaluable importance of cultural heritage maintenance and mutual intercultural respect. They will improve the attainment of communicative and collaborative skills, empathy, cultural understanding and critical thinking. They will be inspired for future jobs by meeting stakeholders and cultivate creativity and compassion by collaborating in transnational teams with synchronous and asynchronous web tools. Our international collaborative activities, realized during the process, will help our students to increase their capacity of operating on a transnational level, which would be an excellent skill for their future as professionals. In order to better achieve this goal, during exchanges, students will be hosted by their partners. This way they will expand their horizons, they will learn from each other and will convey a positive and cohesive message for Europe and its citizens.
Our teaching and learning will be improved through new dimensions of learning. The staff training events are going to help our schools to enrich their curriculum and incorporate new teaching methods.
All topics will be dealt with a cooperative approach, in which bridges will be built between students, teachers, the local community, external organizations and stakeholders (municipalities, museums, NGOs, etc). This way, our schools will open to society, we will gain useful knowledge and build a strong network for future reference. This project will raise our schools’ profile and the long-term vision to transform our unit into a society-open learning hub.
