Project Summary
The project “Notre Europe, an architecture with a thousand faces”, brings together four partners from Germany, Spain, France and Italy. The project aims to have students (between 11 and 15 years old) collaborate on the theme of heritage architecture, its professions, and then in the second year to deal with architecture and sustainable development, as well as new professions, related to this theme.
The aim of this project was to create a website powered by videos made by students on digital tablets (purchase funded by the European project). This interactive website with quizzes and multilingual aspects is an educational resource for other schools or for the general public. It was made in partnership with the media library of St Medard en Jalles.
The objectives of the project:
The educational objectives of this project were to reinforce the teaching methods used by the four project partners, in order to improve students’ basic skills (including expression skills), to avoid dropping out of school and to help the students in difficulty (learning difficulties, socio-economic inequalities), better mastering ICTs, foreign languages and finally improving knowledge of the economic environment.
The aim of this project was to improve the skills of the teachers involved in this project (ICT, innovative pedagogical experiences: subsidized islands, bilingualism, co-training …), thanks to the collaboration within the project teams and the days of mobility (training carried out during the mobilities sometimes carried out by the expert pupils). In each establishment, the work was carried out by the multidisciplinary teams who favoured the team work carried out by the students to encourage co-training.
Throughout the project, the institutions relied on collaborations with external partners to carry out the project: tourist office, local authorities, professional training organizations …
The European dimension in this project has been very important because the confrontation of the different architectural heritages and the challenges of sustainable development made it possible to make everyone aware of the variety of European cultures, but also of common points and the common challenges we need to relieve. During the working mobilities the participants were able to discover the peculiarities of the European educational systems presented by the host countries.
Number and profile of participating organizations:
The four institutions involved in the project (secondaire schools) are both different and complementary. First, two of them had already been involved in European projects while two others were first-time users of this type of project. Similarly, two institutions are geographically located in large urban centers while the other two are located in agricultural areas.
Description of the main activities implemented:
The activities were organized around the production of video on architecture. It was necessary to create a logo, a common graphic environment (graphic chart) for our national blogs and our digital productions.
Then we made the videos, for that it was necessary to carry out documentary research then to organize the filming (school trips), the editing video, the voice over’s recording, the on line publishing on the national blogs.
Then the third step was to create the website that corresponds to the crossroads of our blogs and to gather all the links between our blogs and this website.
Results and impacts achieved and long-term benefits:
The goal for videos was achieved even though each school produced, at its own pace, a variable number of videos depending on the number of students and teachers involved in the project.
The national blogs and the website were made possible thanks to the partnership with the media library of St Médard en Jalles which was an important partner of this project.
Among the positive results achieved, we can note the overall adherence of all institutions to this project (no defection), involvement of students, educational teams, direction and satisfaction of parents of students.
It is obvious that the use of tablets has been one of the main successes of this project (development of ICT in institutions), these tools have made it possible to set up new teaching practices and help students in difficulty. Finally, the collaboration between European partners has developed the feeling of belonging to the same geographical and citizen group and has made it possible to develop the practice of foreign languages.
