Project Summary

The project will be carried out by two regular schools with very different profiles and a special needs school (with focus on mental disabilities). In choosing this very broad scope of partners, we clearly state that our project goals will be closely tied to the concept of inclusion. In carrying out this project, we want to show that differences do not necessarily need to constitute barriers and difficulties, but can be an integral part of a creative process. The basic consideration of all participating schools is that language and all the ensuing competences such as reading competences, textual comprehension and fluency in oral and written production are part of every pupil’s capabilities, can determine their everyday reality and will prepare them fort heir future (both private and work related). During the lifespan of this project some 114 pupils will participate together with their teachers and supporting staff. Although the future goals of the participating pupils are very diverse (ranging from a university degree, over a manual job career being integrated in a workshop for disabled persons) they all share the common basis of values and standards which are alike for all of them and will determine their own future design: ethical values like tolerance and acceptance and communicative skills as a way to present themselves in a creative way. These values are common for all of our participating pupils, regardless of their own talents or disabilities and make them all equals of one another.
Our project wants to try and achieve these goals and make our pupils aware of their own strengths and possibilities through a reading project (both a peer project and reading aloud depending on the particpants), a theatre play and various forms of visual arts. We want to work as one group and will be together in preparing, trying out and presenting these aspects together. Because of the international nature of our partnership, we will also encounter the differences in the various ways of life and habits of the participating pupils which will lead to the desired effects of a better understanding of one another, the removal of initial fears and the construction of mutual understanding and trust despite the use of different mother tongues. In this way next to the inclusive aspect of the project, we will also have room for a positive understanding and better knowledge of fellow European citizens. Next to the project meetings with pupils, we will also greatly value the eTwinning platform, which will be used to disseminate all of our project results in all sorts of different forms. In this way we can ensure that learning competences are available for others and can be integrated in the future school curriculum. The school coordinators will keep in touch through digital video conferences a a regular basis and also make sure that the project is alive and well in all participating schools so that all planned activities will be carried out and all take their share of the responsabilities. Moreover, we anticipate that through the results of this project we will have a sharper and clearer profile as a school ourselves, thus also benefiting from the Erasmus project.
