Project Summary
“In pursuit of Excalibur”, is the result of a collective reflection among European schools, faced with the reality that we live every day in our classrooms: unmotivated students, with little desire to learn, indolent, etc. A project that seeks to awaken in our students the interest in learning and in getting involved in their own teaching process, thus helping to improve academic results and reduce the number of early school leavers.
It is an approach to Celtic culture in Europe, aimed at students between 13 and 15 years of age who track in history to discover a civilization that spread throughout the continent, at a time unknown and mysterious, surrounded by magic and fantasy and that, above all, has bequeathed us a cultural heritage of great value. From places marked out in various parts of Scotland, France, Spain and Italy, we want to delve into the most relevant aspects of this ancestral civilization: its habits and customs, myths and legends, artistic manifestations, music, science, connection with nature, etc.
In particular, the objectives of the project are:
-To know the basic aspects of the culture and history of the Celtic peoples, as well as to value and respect their contribution to the European artistic and cultural heritage.
-To get closer to the Celtic world through their texts, to analyse their vestiges in the different countries and to discover their influence in Europe.
-To deepen in the environmental aspects of the Celtic peoples: relationship with the natural environment, the ecosystem of the settlements, etc.
-To investigate the scope of the scientific and technological knowledge that the Celtic peoples had.
-To make creative proposals taking into account the usual artistic schemes of those peoples.
-To use adequate computer tools and resources in the process of design, creation and construction of simple objects and prototypes.
And the expected results are:
Greater awareness of belonging to Europe, by deepening knowledge of its history and culture, its traditions and artistic manifestations, its geography and natural environment, as well as the richness of its diversity and democratic values.
-Development of an attitude of responsibility and respect for the environment
-Contribution to the acquisition of key competences by working on fundamental curriculum content in an interdisciplinary way
-Development of basic skills in the field of new technologies
By applying mainly active learning methodologies, of a collaborative nature, which stimulate the imagination, encourage creativity, and also favour equality, inclusion, tolerance and respect for interculturality, we also expect the following tangible results:
-Work and murals on aspects of Celtic culture
-Work on numbering systems
-Theatrical production
-Dramatizations
-Productions with ScretchUp
-Celtic village to scale (can be printed in 3D)
-Trivial of the Celtic World (cards and Kahoot)
-Audiovisual presentations
-Astronomical observation
-Great Celtic festival (living Celtic village)
Participation in this project will affect, in one way or another, all participants, students and teachers, and the schools themselves.
It will give students the opportunity to open up culturally to Europe, to its diversity; to become aware of belonging to a community of more than 500 million people. It will also help them to improve their social skills and language competences, in an international, inclusive and integrating environment, with students from three other countries. It will also allow them to stimulate creativity, curiosity and critical spirit, and to grow as individuals, developing democratic values of tolerance, equality, inclusion and respect for interculturality.
It will allow teachers to exchange practices and innovative ways of working that will undoubtedly contribute to our professional – and also cultural and social – development and will also provide us with great experience in the management of international projects of a multidisciplinary nature.
Finally, it will allow the centres not only to place themselves in a prominent position in their immediate environment, but also to be enriched by new practices and experiences, and to generate exciting work spaces that, in the medium and long term, will facilitate new, innovative and exciting challenges. In addition, links between European educational centres will be strengthened with a view to new collaborations in the future, thus favouring the creation of educational networks that will undoubtedly last and continue to expand.
