Project Summary

The project “Let us discover the heritage of our European neighbours” is part of a desire to develop the international openness of schools involved in a theme focused on the discovery and sharing of European cultural heritage.
The educational objectives aim at getting to learn firstly about both the pupils’ and the partner countries’ cultural heritages, secondly about the linguistic background of each school (French as a mother tongue or as a foreign language)and finally the digital skills necessary for communication and dissemination of the project.
Six schools are involved in the project:
– Balansun school (France, New Aquitaine), project coordinating school, about 25 pupils from 9 to 11 years old
– Saint-Boès school (France, New Aquitaine), school with 2 classes, pupils from 8 to 11 years old
– Vasto school (Italy), nursery and primary school of about 1200 pupils
– Nafpaktos school (Greece), school welcoming approximately 350 pupils from kindergarten to high school
– Jena school (Germany), school of around 120 pupils from CP to CM1
– La Oliva school (Spain, Canary Islands), nursery and primary school with about 180 pupils.
During the 2 years of the project, the partners will implement many activities that will allow students to discover their cultural and artistic heritage. Exchanges between pupils from the different partner schools will be a priority throughout the project, they will be offered in order to share, pass on and disseminate the knowledge and productions of the students. Most of these exchanges are already planned, but others can be proposed at the initiative of a school in order to create additional links between the students of all schools.
Each school will send a video presentation of the premises and the surounding environment so that the other pupils can get an idea of the daily life of their partners. A paper and electronic newspaper will be produced regularly and distributed in schools as well as in families to report on the activities implemented by each school. Between mobilities, this newspaper will allow pupils to share their cultural discoveries with partner schools. Each school will draw up a calendar of the cultures and traditions of its country. A large cultural fresco will be produced by each school. During the last mobility, each school will bring its production and a giant fresco will be created and displayed.
The organization will be supported by frequent exchanges between teachers via the eTwinning platform throughout the project. The platform will also be made available to pupils to encourage discussion. A first virtual meeting is planned at the start of the project.
These activities and exchanges will give meaning to learning and should allow greater inclusion of students who may be having academic difficulties.
The planned mobility will offer pupils the opportunity to discover the rich cultures of our European neighbours directly. Visits to historic or cultural sites are planned as well as moments of sharing culture and traditions (songs, dances, traditional games) in the host school.
The schools will do everything possible, thanks to the activities and mobility, to ensure that the pupils discover their own cultural heritage as well as that of their partners, and thus learn to enrich it, to pass it on and to diffuse it within the framework of construction of European citizenship.
The expected results are the improvement of pupils’ knowledge in all areas targeted by the educational objectives of the project.
All activities will be broadcast locally (press, parents of pupils, local exhibitions, etc.).
The schools involved hope to perpetuate this project beyond the two years of the project to continue discovering the European cultural heritage by maintaining a link between the schools and by participating in new European projects, virtual or not.
