Project Summary

“Water is life and the gold of our future” Partner schools from Bruneck (It), Marseille (FR) and Dortmund (D) react! The motives are firstly climate protection and secondly sustainable education. Water is becoming more important worldwide: We hear many aspects such as microplastics in the ocean, water scarcity in Europe and non-European countries, groundwater pollution through fracking, river restoration, etc. and last but not least, 785 million people have no access to clean water. Agenda 2030 lists 17 goals for our world, goal 16 is “Clean Water”. Aspects enough to take on a joint responsibility for society as a whole and, in the spirit of sustainability, to bring about an early discussion and a corrected attitude among people.
The children know the words climate change, global warming and have followed the concerned people with the demo “Fridays for future”. They also want to help and do something. These are the best prerequisites for the project to become active, behave confidently and ask further questions, such as “Why do we flush the toilet with drinking water?” The Situation is similar in the three partner countries and each country brings its own regional approaches. Ultimately, our three countries describe the path from the source to the sea, because on the way they meet

– in Bruneck / IT:
Thread from Water (snow, flood), sources (source of water), mountain lakes (water quality), reservoirs (supply), waterfalls (energy),
– in Marseille / FR:
Longchamp Palace (historical, water supply), pollution of the sea (Mediterranean, currently cruise ships, plastic waste), fishing (overfishing, food),
– in Dortmund / DE: renaturation of the rivers (industry, fish stock, Ruhr, drinking water), water as transport routes (canals, Dortmund Emskanal, inland port, boat lift, lock), etc.

This pre-understanding of the children is expanded by “We in Europe as part of the world” by being able to “think outside the box”, because with the expansion to Ethiopia through the Neven Sobotic Foundation the connection from Europe to the world is established.

The children can understand that the impact is global and that clean water is important to our lives. The water is the topic of every project week with the following possible contents: experiments, water diary, reports, expeditions, etc. The pupils form four groups of 6 children, each from two countries, so that they can discover together and, as guest children, introduce them to the processes be involved. The authentic encounters enable children to experience culture and language in the respective country and expand their intercultural competence.
Module 1: Preparation for the visit with children: brainstorming and ideas about the regional environment
Module 2: Implementation of the project week from 8.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
It is implemented across all classes and ages with children in 3rd and 4th class. By training their perception, experimentation, curiosity and the common goal in the form of a documentary film, the pupils will strengthen their self-confidence and develop their ability to compromise and work in a team. Interdisciplinary work is necessary in the teaching phases, e.g.
Language: German / French / Italian / Working language: English
Read and write texts (e.g. documentation texts, reports, interviews), hold conversations, express opinions, expand foreign language skills, act in encounter situations, availability of linguistic means
Art / music: poems about the river, stories from residents, rap about water pollution, painting with water from the mountain lake, photo, etc.
Subject teaching / intercultural learning:
Community / Environment: Water – from the source to the sea, climate change, experiments, interviews and news, etc.
Time, culture / people / space: diversity of cultures, different worlds, tolerance, mutual and individual learning, cooperation, mutual understanding
Digitization / media: s. Module 4
Module 3: Excursions with our international class of 24 children to water points 2 p.m. – 4.30 p.m .: depending on the country see above.
Module 4: filming and presentation
The children shoot their sequences live or save reports and documentaries with images using greenscreen. The following apps are used for this: Thinglink, Sparkvideo and iMovie. The partial material is presented locally and regionally, a postcard per country invites digitally (schoolfox, city distributors, etc.).

Through the public distribution of the joint documentary film (youtube, websites, etc.), the promotion of creativity / Language in 3 languages supports social rethinking and corrected behavior is expected.
