Project Summary

Carnival – Lives in Festival
This project is intended to use the arts to celebrate diversity and build understanding. It has been developed from a successful piece of research that shows that the arts can enhance writing skills as children feel more emotionally committed to their work. The arts; painting, model making, film, dance and music will be focused on carnivals and festivals across Europe and the World. This means the project works on several themes. The challenge in the project will be to use film to capture festival, in essence to allow children to make their own documentaries of their celebration, to share their culture and teach others.

For our Children.
Community Building.
The project allows children within each partner school to work together to produce their version of a carnival or festival they have learnt about from another partner.
The project allows children within each partner school to work together to celebrate their own traditional festival or carnival.
Learning About Other Cultures.
Children will discover more about each other as they learn about traditions from other countries.
Children teach children in other partners about themselves and their culture.
Children are Taught the Arts for a Purpose.
Children learn how to paint, dance, sing, make models and film-making to produce a carnival or festival. Their learning is real and to a focus.
Children Develop Communication Skills.
The arts and their focus must be produced in a way that others can understand. Hence their home language and foreign language skills are increased.

For Our Teachers.
Partnership Learning.
Teachers will learn the customs of other countries enhancing their understanding of why nationalities behave in certain ways.
Teachers will build links with partners they can build future projects with.
Teachers will understand that the arts and their heritage can be used to develop their home language and foreign language without detriment to their curriculum.
