Project Summary
Since 1957, equality between women and men has been a priority for the member states of the European Union. This commitment is reaffirmed by the Council of Europe’s “Strategy 2018-2023” for equality between women and men. Our project aims to create a synergy between several European establishments in order to “Educate against gender inequalities in Europe and in the world”. Our consortium is made up of five partner establishments: the Lycée des Métiers Armand Guillaumin in Orly (France), project coordinator, the Lycée polyvalent Edouard Branly in Créteil (France), le lycée hôtelier IPSSEOA “Karol Wojtyla” de Catania (Italie) and the Colegiul Tehnic Henri Coanda from Targu Jiu (Romania). Our establishments have many students from very disadvantaged socio-professional backgrounds and unaccustomed to the culture of equality that prevails in more advantaged environments. This unifying project aims to carry out educational action in favor of equality between girls and boys (and equality between women and men) at school and in European societies. We can consider this project from different angles: – information, communication and citizenship (the place of women in history, the dress code, the commitment of women during the World Wars)
-culture and artistic creation (the place of women and men in art or sport, artists engaged in the struggle for the emancipation of women, their relationship with the body through artistic or sporting practices);
-political and professional economic world (the importance of gender stereotypes in the choice of studies and professional choices for girls, wage inequalities between men and women, the glass ceiling, the economic precariousness which affects the vast majority women, non-respect of gender parity in political bodies …;
– body, health and well-being (contraception, abortion, gender mix, homophobia …)The objective of this project is a collective reflection to fight against:
– gender stereotypes which are the primary factors of inequality;
– combating sexist behavior and gender-based violence at school and outside school;
– hierarchical domination of men;
– inequalities in the professional world.
This project also aims to educate for:
– foster a climate of mutual aid and respect despite the cultural differences of the students;
– federate around a universal theme (equality between girls and boys) while promoting the construction of fulfilled individuals;
– develop the feeling of belonging to the European Union among pupils (and its construction as a citizen of the world who works for peace);
– make European pupils adhere to a key value of the European Union (Article 119 of the Treaty of Rome lays down the principle “for equal pay, equal work”)The four establishments of the consortium have already carried out many transversal projects in order to fight against several forms of inequalities between girls and boys (fight against cyber-harassment of which girls are the first victims, the fight against violence against women …), this project is therefore in line with the educational policies already in place. In order to carry it out, we will use Erasmus + platforms like EtwinningSpace to make students from the three countries work. Several educational activities are planned:
– in order to deconstruct the gender stereotypes that influence the choice of students ‘professional paths, we will organize exchanges between a class of boys’ future electricians) from the Edourd Branly high school in Créteil and a class of girls from Armand Guillaumin (future beauticians). The boys will discover the beauty trades and the girls the “male” trades. This activity will be shared in the form of photo repot on EtwinningSpace;
– this project will also allow often disadvantaged students to open up to Europe and the world by exchanging presentations in the form of Powerpoint on the great female figures of each partner country, by drawing up a charter (in French, Romanian and in Italian) in which the students undertake to respect each other, videoconferences during colloquiums invited by actors of civil society who fight daily for real equality between women and men.
The expected are:
– learn the codes of successful communication;
– understand the forms of verbal and non-verbal communication;
-educate to mutual respect and tolerance;
– raising awareness for full equality between girls and boys in Europe and in the world;
-promote equality between girls and boys to the public through student productions (exhibition during open days, article in the press)
