Project Summary

All four members start a two-year project trying to face the challenge of mixing up tradition with ICT and youth entrepreneurship. The project’s intention is to strengthen the feeling of a common identity among the member countries of the project, based on our common history through the cultural heritage received from the Greco-Roman civilisation and our common Mediterranean background. This common origin will build synergies to solve our school difficulties by sharing experience and knowledge, especially the ones related to multiculturalism. We see ourselves as schools with a duty to recognise, promote, build and develop intercultural competences.
Malta, Spain, Italy and Greece meet in this project to elaborate an audiobook, which will show their common historical heritage. They all have taken part before in international projects and count on many expert teachers who will help carry out this one. Partner schools will usually work on the eTwinning platform as a mean to put in common ideas and results during the project development. It will be also used as a communicative tool to connect schools online.
All Key Competences are worked throughout this project: Communication in Mother and Foreign Languages, Mathematical and Basic Competences in Science and Technology, Digital, Learning to Learn, Social and Civic Competences, Sense of Initiative and Entrepreneurship, Cultural Expressions and artistic Awareness.
The project consists of four stages to develop the Mediterranean Heritage audiobook; one per each partner country, who will be in charge of the fulfilment of their assigned part of the project: oral Poetry, traditional Music, Arts-Technology and ICT-Economics. More in detail, popular poems from oral lyrical tradition of the four countries will be chosen and musicalized emulating medieval traditional melodies. All the selected songs will be played by the students and recorded on a Compact Disc, which will be displayed in a book designed and decorated by the partner schools. For this purpose, Augmented Reality, one of the most innovative ICT resources, will be used to enrich the book content by inserting materials (videos, pictures, scores, MIDI, etc.) arranged by students previously. To close this project, the final product will be virtually commercialised by a website to simulate the product’s selling on the internet. A commercial spot and radio ads of the audiobook will be elaborated ad hoc to be attached to the website and social networking sites.
Strategic results will bring innovation to all participating schools by working together with an inclusive methodology to improve their social inclusion problem, reinforcing equity among students and reducing the early school leaving and disadvantage. We see ourselves as schools with a duty to recognise, promote, build and develop our intercultural competences. Working together means observing how this common problem is being solved in different countries and, therefore, these experiences could be exported to other Mediterranean areas. Assessment tools will be a useful way to track the project’s everyday work and, especially, partial and final results. One person in charge from each country will coordinate the assessment results with the partners and will design rubrics for every particular usage.
Teachers could benefit themselves and their schools sharing this know-how by short job shadowing exchange periods that this project’s philosophy brigs to the team. Finally, students will realise that the 21st century carries itself a new perspective where inner borders are replaced by a stronger European feeling. It implies more chances for youth to access to common welfare.
The project idea, stages, partial results and final product (the audiobook and its commercialisation) will be disseminated in all schools to pupils, teachers and families through events. These events are open to the school community and all interested local and regional public, especially other schools. This experience should be transmitted and disseminated through the official teachers’ training centres by taking part in seminars and congresses about International Education.
The press/local radio/local TV will be invited to amp this innovative project and seed of our pupils’ entrepreneurship.
On the school’s webpages, each school will link the commercial webpage of the project itself in all the official languages of the partner countries and some other details related with the project results.
As the project intends to highlight folklore roots of their cultural heritage, Town Hall and Regional Government representatives will be invited to the dissemination events of the audiobook.
As members of eTwinning platform and School Education Gateway, the schools will use these public European platforms to show the project’s progress and results to the international education community. The results will be also linked on Erasmus+ Project Results Platform and to the partners’ Regional websites.
