Project Summary
The project idea was born in the context of the nowadays Europe,which is confronted with an increasing number of xenophobic acts but also in the particular context of our schools which each identified a compulsory need to engage in such a project due to an increased number of students with different personal situations such as different cultural and religious backgrounds (i.e.the migrant families),special health needs, different social status (i.e. the Roma minority),economic difficulties which expose them to the risk of early school leaving,familial difficulties (i.e.one or both parents working abroad and leaving their children behind. All these particular situations, makes the students face specific problems caused by prejudices and xenophobia. As a consequence, they have to struggle to adapt and to be accepted. None of our schools are well prepared to approach these sensitive situations so both our teachers and students need to acquire new competences, develop new attitudes and, specifically, create an efficient tools such as an individual portfolio intended as a documentation tool for each student involved in the mobilities, that will flow in the school portfolio (see attachments) and a handbook to be useful for them but also for other schools in the community.
By involving in the partnership European schools with different backgrounds, we have the chance to exchange successful practices and valuable experiences on the project topic as experienced by the coordinating school during the KA1 Project now in its conclusion phase.
Also, by the interesting activities and outcomes of the project, we intend to contribute in helping our schools coping better with these issues so that we can bring a contribution to the social inclusion and to help students be less exposed to bullying, marginalization and psychological pressure. Our approach is to address different types of discrimination which may appear in schools and make our students aware of the effects of the prejudicial thinking , thus forming their character in becoming tolerant, respectful individuals
The project addresses the following target groups:300 students (50 students from each partner school),and 42 teachers.
Also, through well-designed dissemination activities, the parents, the wider educational community, as well as the local communities will enlarge the target groups so all of them will acquire new skills and competences which will make them combat efficiently any type of discrimination and xenophobia and assure a tolerant school environment.
The project aims to fight stereotypes and prejudices thus assuring a better social inclusion for all the children at risk, to provide new competences and skills for students and staff in order to combat all kinds of discrimination and xenophobia, to develop students’ and teachers’ key competences and skills such as digital competences, foreign languages skills, management abilities while working on the project topic, in the project teams. Also, to improve students’ motivation in learning by involving them in the interesting, useful and less conventional activities of the project.
The concrete results we want to produce are:
-determine lifelong changes in students, parents, teachers because they will all acquire new competences to face better the discrimination; ——
– positive changes in school curricula through a CLIL optional subject: ”We are all equal” based on the handbook produced by the project;
-project logo “All different, all equal” selected from the creations of the partners;
-a common survey about the phenomenon of bullying in schools(to know from where we leave and to figure the changes after the completion of the project);
-a TwinSpace (which will put in contact persons from all the target groups, thus helping in implementing and disseminating the activities);
-a website;
-a drama play;
-posters;
-padlets for digital dissemination;
-a step by step press office called The Ear of Dionysius;
-set of questionnaires for the initial, intermediate and final evaluation of the project;
-sports tournaments and meetings, in collaboration with local sports associations;
-performances by the school choir in contexts involving school and parents collected in a recorded compilation;
-acquisition of a constant practice of mindfulness techniques within the curriculum;
-poems inspired by the topics of the above selected poets;
-a handbook, a School Portfolio, and an Evaluation Portfolio;
-a final international conference,for dissemination and evaluation;
There are six partners, schools from Italy (coordinator), Romania Czech Republic, Finland, Greece and Spain.
We planned to have a number of 6 short term exchange of groups of pupils, with a duration of four days, each.
At each LTT activity, a number of 4 students and 2 teachers will take part and a specific type of discrimination will be addressed, so the activities will be tailored according to this goal.
