Project Summary
Project “Robotic school of humanists” is implemented by the Polish School Complex of John Paul II in Grodzisko Dolne (coordinating the project) with the Lithuanian school Mazeikiai Senamiestis Low Secondary School, the Bulgarian First Primary School “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” and the Italian Istituto Comprensivo Statale “S. Quasimodo”. The project was based on innovative teaching methods, where each school demonstrates its methodology, while learning about the other and thus introduces them in their own schools. The introduced methods will be the answer to the main goal of the project, which is to increase knowledge, skills and educational and social competences of students aged 10-15 and teachers by implementing in schools a teaching system based on a technological approach combined with theatrical activities during the project. However, the most important specific goals include motivating and engaging all children in the education process, developing their creativity, openness and teamwork skills. These skills will facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and development of key competences. Teachers will strengthen their professional competences in the use of new technologies, language, programming, theatre and cultural skills. Activities and mobility create a spiral program, because the same content is returning at ever higher levels, expanding their scope. The first is a meeting in Lithuania, which contains activities that give rise to the other plans to promote a comprehensive approach to teaching and foreign languages. Students will participate in integration classes through dance, music and ICT use. They will create etude scripts in international groups, in which they will take into account new skills and new technologies. They will also visit the local theatre. As a summary, a comic will be created showing their visit to Lithuania, using a computer program they’ve met. The next meeting will take place in Bulgaria. It will be based on materials developed in Lithuania and develop new competences. Teachers from Bulgaria have experience in innovative practices, during which they involve all children in the education process to increase their motivation, develop skills of analysis, presentation, positive communication, teamwork and prepare for successful implementation in a high technology society. They have extensive experience in performing arts, which is why we will use their experience. This visit will focus on the theatre warm-up. There will also be a competition for a theatre study based on a script written during a meeting in Lithuania. The final product will be an electronic collection of theatrical studies. The third meeting will take place in Poland, which will be the next step in learning about new methods of working with children. In international groups, students will work on various issues in the preparation of the final performance of the project based on Stanislaw Lem’s “Fables of Robots”, which will eventually be staged in Italy. The meeting will end with a summary and presentation of the developed proposals. There will be three thematic blocks: learning the basics of programming on Lego sets, developing the script for the performance, stage design solutions. The last summarizing meeting will take place in Italy. The acquired knowledge and skills will be complemented by the extensive experience of the Italian school. Coding and development of information and communication technologies is one of the school’s priorities, which is part of our priorities. Robotics is developed here at a high level and we will use it. Students will take part in robotics workshops with different types of robots than used in Poland, then we will try to introduce robots to the performance. The school has experience in connecting robots with art, so we’ll use it. The result of the work will be a theatre performance using multimedia, robotics and of course theatre arts. All activities in the project will be in English, thanks to which we will naturally increase our language competence. The performance will complement the electronic collection of studies. The methodology includes active participation, learning from good practices, self-presentations and presentations, creative action, self-reflection, observation. The results, we want to achieve are primarily the implementation of innovative solutions in schools and the increase of key competences. Spreading will take place at regional, national and international level and will be directed in particular to teachers interested in teaching innovative methods, to students, parents and the local community. The innovative approach to education implemented in schools will have a long-term application and cooperation will be continued.
