Project Summary
We are a team of partners from Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Lithuania and Poland and we are going to implement a common Erasmus+ “Our life in our hands!” project according to our students and teachers’ needs. There are about 1600 students aged 7–15 who will take part in the project indirectly and 80 aged 12–14 who will take part in 4 mobilities. The other target group consist of 80 teachers who will take part indirectly and 20 who will take part in mobilities.
The aims of the project agree with the objectives of Europe 2020 Strategy and correspond with eTwinning goals (2020 is a year of Climate Change and Environmental Challenges ), is adequate to “Climate Action” of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by United Nations as part the Development 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and learn participants to live sustainably.
Implementing the project, we intend to raise participants’ awareness of environmental climate problems, build their strong environmental consciousness, develop their eco-friendly habits and attitude to natural environment in order to counteract negative results of climate changes. To achieve the environmental and climate goals, students will take active part in several activities and create concrete products. As the result, pupils will enrich knowledge, become more conscious and responsible for climate changes. They will achieve behavioral changes for their individual preferences, consumption habits, and lifestyle.
Doing the project, pupils will increase level of digital competence, especially by using eTwinning platform and TwinSpace, and introducing innovative ICT tools. We will provide trainings for teachers and students which will allow them to use modern technology in practical way.
Furthermore, implementing the project, we will promote equity and inclusion by facilitating the access to participants with disadvantaged backgrounds and fewer opportunities compared to their peers. We want to include into the project students with educational difficulties (young people with learning difficulties and poor school performance, early school-leavers), pupils with economic obstacles and immigrants from Spain and Portugal. We want to exchange of good practices to have better experience in this aspect. As the result, pupils develop social competence by working together, and intercultural competence by working in the international environment. Also, they will increase competence in English.
In addition, teachers will enrich knowledge about environmental and climate aspects, apply innovative methodologies, exchange of good practices, get new experience in bilingual teaching, increase level of English and ICT competence.
We are going to create three main products: a cross-curricular ecological programme “Our life in our hands!” to support teachers in introduction ecological and climate aspects at schools and an e-book Kids 4Earth Future. The publication will contain propositions of concrete activities which will be provided with students to counteract negative climate changes on our planet now and in the future. Moreover, students will create an Eco-Calendar which will contain also several practical advice connected with culinary and household chores. It can be used especially by parents and other people to encourage them to provide an eco-friendly lifestyle.
To achieve the goals of the project, we will provide several activities, for example, 3R workshop to teach students how to use waste in a practical way, a workshop “Do Smart Shopping” to encourage pupils to be more conscious customer, an eco-game “Green Island” on a plastic free island in Croatia, a study visit on an ecological farm to familiarize participants with producing sustainable food, a campaign Plant a Tree to plant oxytrees and olive trees near partner schools, write an open letter and make a mural to promote project aims. Most of the activities will be provided together during meetings abroad.
We will set up Eco-Clubs and arrange Eco-Corners. Also, organize action “Week of Saving Energy”, an eco-picnic and a bike parade to promote eco-friendly lifestyle. Thanks to that, participants will enrich knowledge and get many practical skills how to counteract environmental and climate changes. Teachers will develop their professional development by using innovative methods e.g. Project Based Learning, Cooperative Learning, gamification (Escape Room), quest, also bilingual teaching. Most activities will be provided during regular classes at partner schools.
We believe that the project will have positive impact at local, regional, national and international level. The topic is important for many other students and teachers and up to date because the process of natural environment degradation causing by climate changes is increasing very quickly.
Doing the project, participants will develop eco-friendly behaviour to make conscious choices now and in the future, so the effects will be measurable and long-term
