Project Summary
The aim of the Enclaves of life project is to bring together initiators, committed groups, young people and local communities in three countries to strengthen their interest and participatory search of ways towards small scale sustainable community-friendly forestry. Through finding people, looking for questions and obstacles and answers to them, through supporting outputs and discussions at forest workshops, seminars and conferences, the project will try to contribute to change the perception and approach to forests in local communities and to disseminate good practice and examples of initiative engagement for a better environment and will introduce the topic of community supported forestry. On pilot sites (in different geographical areas, in various conditions and level of maintenance) will be shown how to establish and maintain small scale forests with enhanced secondary functions; so how to create such an ecosystem that provides both benefit and pleasure its owners while keeping rich biodiversity and ecological and landscape features.
The ‘Enclaves of Life’ project turns to small landowners or owners of forests who are interested to have in their plot valuable space in terms of biodiversity and ecology. It also addresses experts from research, education and other non-profit organizations with the possibility to use their recommendations and pilot findings in practice. And the project also turns to local communities, especially to young people with the possibility of taking care of the forest in the neighbourhood on a community level and to help hands-on to improve our environment.
Within the project there will be created and presented guideline how to reach this target. The manual, validated on pilot project sites, will lead anyone step by step through legislative, economic, ownership, environmental and other necessary rules, so people who are aware and interested to actively support the landscape restoration have the opportunity to do so and have enough relevant and high-quality information in all phases.
Foreign partners – POLISH ECOLOGICAL CLUB IN KRAKOW GLIWICE CHAPTER and Western-Harju Partnership – were invited to join the project, so the wider variety of experience, approaches and recommendations can be captured and described.
The applicant and its partners agreed on a common method of achieving the objectives of the project – bringing together stakeholders in the field of ecology and forest protection, identifying and publishing examples of good practice, and preparing the tool and handing it to the public for their own activities. Partner organizations have similar focus and interests, contacts and trust of communities. They are not experts in forest protection, but they can connect interest groups. They cooperate with communities and authorities in their activities, they are interested in climate change and related issues and would like to help solving it. They have been working with young people for a long time, and want to involve them in current environmental topics and to teach them how to handle them.
To achieve this goal, the consortium have chosen the following activities:
1. Engaging the target groups and forming of the implementation teams – broader national ones and narrower international ones.
2. Summarizing information and analyzing needs.
3. Extracting inspirational resources.
4. Propagation of forest philosophy.
The project will be implemented in the period 6/20 – 3/23.
The project Enclaves of Life is a heart project of amateur enthusiasts who are interested in doing something specific to help their environment. It’s not just a another project, it’s a lifestyle worth sharing.
