Project Summary

The world is in the hands of children

The Earth’s natural resources are running out at a high speed due to the growth of the economy and the increase of the population in the world. Climate change, global warming, droughts, pollution, diminishing biological diversity and lack of self management of resources are problems the world is facing. Our society depends on metals, minerals, fuels, water, wood, fertile soil and clean air. However, we have been consuming these limited resources at a much faster rate than the one that allows their recovery, and if we do not change this way of use, there will be great shortages in the future.

In the project “The world is in the hands of our children” we want to increase environmental awareness and knowledge, especially for students but also for parents and teachers. We need to help children understand the importance of a sustainable environment as early as possible and to make this a part of their culture, as the world and the future is in fact in their hands.

Six different schools from Turkey, Romania, Germany, Poland, Spain and Norway has created this project together, we have chosen project partners we are cooperating with and who are actively working and have a interest in ecological projects. All the partners are schools that promote ecology and are having environmental activities like collecting papers and other waste items as part of their school activities. We also have innovative approaches for learning experiences and techniques and openness to inter-cultural communication and an appreciation of culture.

The project will engage teachers, students, parents and members of the local communities. We will include parts of the project in the national curriculum and the project will involve the headmaster, biology, geography, art, ICT teachers. As the communication language is English each partner will involve an english teacher in the project too. Teachers will coordinate and supervise the activities of the students, they will organise workshops and help the students to realize the different challenges. Continuously the students will present their work to colleagues and they will get feedback about their work from other students and teachers. Presentations of their work will be held, filmed and shared with partner countries, parents, students and local communities if necessary. The direct participants are the students. From each partner country there will participate 20 students , from the age 12-15. These students will take part in the mobilities, they will make the research, participate in the workshops and create the different results.

The project will have some common activities, activities that all of the partners will work with. One of the activities are getting the students to discover the environmental challenges in the world with analysing real data about waste of water and electricity to get them to realise that resources are limited. The students will also have activities where they collect waste materials and then reuse them in different ways, and maybe create new products. In that way they can comprehend that we can reuse and recycle everything. We will also make the students in collaboration with their family try to grow vegetables, in that way they can get an understanding of the importance of producing their own food. As a result they might also get an extended respect for food and try to diminish foodwaste. Trying to replace chemicals with natural products will also be a focus area, students will research, present and prove how it is possible to replace our bad daily habits with good ones in the benefits of the environment.

With this project we want to raise environmental awareness and knowledge and achieve a sense of protection for the environment. We will improve our teaching skills by observing colleagues in different countries and experiencing different educational models. The project will create new ways to encourage students to protect the environment, use energy sources appropriately, minimize waste and environmental pollution.
The establishment of new partnerships might encourage for future erasmus+ project.
At last we will through this project learn from each other and share our knowledge and competence, all and all we are in this together.
