Project Summary
The Eurobot project is a continuation of an eTwinning partnership conducted in 2018 within an Interdisciplinary Practical Teaching combining Spanish and technology. The aim is to build a fire brigade robot remotely controlled and programmed to extinguish flames on a given course.
Within the framework of this EPI, we have engaged the eTwinning partnership, named Eurobots 3.0, between the Gaston Jollet College and the Spanish School of Spain, the Instituto de Educación Secundaria (IES) Banús, Cerdanyola del Vallès (Catalonia).
The students, from age 14 to age 16, from both institutions will be mixed and will form international teams, each of them will develop their own firefighting robot.
The challenge of this project is to show students that the skills acquired are not local, but well anchored in a European and digital context that legitimize the learning of modern languages and digital tools to exchange, communicate, create and produce.
Indeed, in a globalization context, this project, which will allow students to participate in an international team to develop a robot (editing, programming, modeling and manufacturing of parts to customize it), appears as an excellent opportunity to acquire useful and sought-after skills (individual path of information, orientation and discovery of the economic and professional world).
Students will discover, during the work in international teams, the interest and importance of mastering a foreign language to communicate with teammates.
Our ambition is for our students to master “generic” digital tools, such as creating slideshows or videos, using videoconferencing or the exchange platform (twinspace) as well as the use of digital design and production tools such as digital modeling, 3D printing, digital control production, Android application creation and robot programming. This digital component is complemented by media and Internet education so that they can use digital tools in a reasoned, secure and convenient way.
The desired result is to allow all students to enter into written and / or oral communication in a foreign language, including with foreign partners. The project will require upgrading of Spanish language skills and adaptability to the speakers.
This project combining work in international teams in Spanish and robotics activities corresponds to innovating practices anchored in the digital age and favoring a coherent approach of teaching and learning Spanish language.
In addition to the two main objectives stated, the project is also part of the future and citizen paths.
We think that it is important to give meaning to school learning by matching the skills developed and trades using them. This opening towards the world of the company must help the pupils to build their orientation course but also to show them that the skills developed are used in different countries. This is why it is envisaged during the mobilities to make visits of companies but also places of training.
In addition to media education and the reasoned use of digital tools, the organization of project work in international teams contributes to the training of the citizen and will be an opportunity for students to cooperate, to exchange their point of view and argue.
