Project Summary
The project is innovative as it combines global citizenship with a real passion to promote learning cross-curricularly, pupil voice being central to the project and at the heart of all decision making and part of the process. It will give pupils a real opportunity to understand their roles as active global citizens through classroom activities and projects that will motivate them to learn as they will get to share these with a real audience. The project focuses on developing Rights Respecting Pupils who value the UNICEF Rights Charter. The UNICEF Rights Charter is an important document that children need to understand and respect. All schools involved in the partnership believe that an European focus through Erasmus will allow our pupils to develop a true understanding of these Rights through collaborative work between countries. The project will allow students to collaboratively work with other European pupils on developing their understanding of these rights and to become critical thinkers. Having an authentic, international audience for their work will inspire and motivate them to investigate, discuss and understand more fully the universal nature of these rights and the significance of their role. The project aims to develop skills and competencies which are essential for successful professional and personal life. As a result we need to raise and modernise education systems to develop critical thinking, a vital skill needed in the 21st century to be able to make responsible choices in a world where media dominates and fake news abounds. We will engage pupils to learn about being responsible global citizens by using modern technologies throughout and then activities to unite pupils and get them talking will be ones focusing on cultures and traditions of our European friends, celebrating these together while respecting each other and educating them on the rights. Our project will be inclusive, giving all our pupils and staff, regardless of their age, economical background, race, gender or ability, the opportunity to develop the key skills across the curriculum, with particular focus on ICT, Entrepreneurship, Mathematics, Sport and Literacy in a meaningful and interesting way. We feel that these topics are essential for them to grow and live a healthy life as rights respecting pupils. Using innovative technology will motivate them to learn, as their work will have a real audience. The project includes using a variety of social media – website, blog, twitter – therefore we will teach pupils the importance of using these safely and responsibly and ensuring they are safe online. The project is needed to stimulate and open the minds of all our pupils, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds to have high aspirations and develop higher order skills, preparing them to use these key skills in life through engaging them in digital skills, entrepreneurial projects, cultural heritage development and literacy .
The project also promotes sharing practices between our teachers. It allows our teachers an opportunity for professional development as they share teaching pedagogy’s and methodologies with each other to support our pupils to be successful learners in the future. They will go on learning, teaching, training events to share best practise and resources and develop their understanding and challenge their ideas on how pupils learn best. It will be a way of sharing internationally best practise and giving our pupils the best opportunities to succeed for a successful future.
