Project Summary
Szkoła Podstawowa nr 4 in Wałcz, having analyzed the needs of their students, which resulted in the desire of performing integrated skills lessons so as the students would develop their key competences and general knowledge, decided to involve in a two-year project “Be bold as the digital world”.
Mainly for economic reasons, some of the kids will possibly have the only chance to act at European level. Nowadays, omnipresence of digital devices makes this environment the friendliest to students. Therefore, using digital media we want to develop key competences among our students, with particular emphasis on digital, mathematical and science competences and English skills, as well as cultural and social skills along with entrepreneurship. As the faculty, we will make sure that this journey through the digital world is safe and bypasses the threats due to insufficient knowledge. We will also acquire new practices in teaching and share the previously achieved ones. Our partners are schools from Romania, Lithuania and Turkey, which decided to participate in the project on the same grounds.
The participants of our project are the children from our schools, mainly aged 12-15, who will take the biggest part in direct activities, as well as their parents, teachers. The total number of participants involved in indirect and direct activities is more than 1000 children, 300 teachers.
The institutions that will cooperate with us at the local level are: municipal authorities, fire brigade, police, emergency service, military units, local IT companies, job and specialist clinics, libraries, museums and universities. These facilities will support our activities by showing their work in terms of using ICT, sharing their information resources, assisting in management, and above all, providing volunteers and experts to run training workshops.
We intend to carry out 4 mobilities for pupils that will take place in every participant country. During them, the children will learn about the possibilities of creating films themselves, integrating curriculum into one subject, the principles of the digital world, the media’s influence on their behavior and body, learn about new cultures, ways to learn independently and develop linguistic, cultural and digital competences and create a lot new international friendships.
We have also included 4 short training programs for teachers, which will also take place in every participant country.
During them we will become acquainted with integrated skills in the subjects, using the full potential of ICT in classes, ways to protect children from the dangers of using the Internet, modern ways of assessing, learning about formal ways, informal teaching, media influence over young people. As adults, we will also deepen our cultural knowledge, associate with the new educational environment and develop language and ICT skills.
The main project tasks that we will perform during the whole project are: enriching the lessons through optimising use of the computer, interactive whiteboard and smartphones / tablets; students creating sets of interactive lessons; recording selected lessons; taking selfie photos after activities.
After the mobilities, a series of events will take place, which is the climax of our project – organisation of Competence Days – 4 cyclical events organised by each school, during which we will participate in workshops on developing specific competences, and we will present the results of participants’ activities at exhibitions, by presentations , competitions and at school assembly, and additional classes. During this period there will also be competitions on knowledge and other cultural events about project countries, which is related to our eTwinning project.
We intend to publish our activities periodically at eTwinning, YouTube, Facebook and Erasmus+ Project Results Platform. At the local level, we plan to organise meetings with the teaching staff, parents and provide information in the school newspaper, as well as local press and television (Polish side as coordinators).
The results we want to achieve are:
acquiring teaching materials, good practices, raising key competences, interpersonal, linguistic and digital skills, developing awareness of skillful and safe navigation in the digital world, cultural awareness, gaining knowledge, creating presentations, films, PDF albums, music videos.
The long-term effects of work on the project will bring the use of acquired skills and materials:
