Project Summary
The project “Math – Fun, Education and Communication”, within school cooperation of the Erasmus + program of the KA229 action, is planned for 24 months from 01/11/2019. until 31.10.2021.The applying institution is
Przedszkole Miejskie nr 206 z Oddziałami Integracyjnymi w Łodzi
Kindergarten No. 206 with Integration Units in Lodz, Poland
The main goal of the project is:
Development of the key competences of the future during the project, assuring successful and free participation in European society, using active methods, mathematical education combined with ICT and bilingual education and thus having impact on the development of teachers as well as their pupils.
The multifaceted nature of activities will focus on the objectives:
1. Supporting teachers in acquiring new skills and professional competences through the implementation of tasks in the project.
2. Developing mathematical and foreign language competences of children at the early education stage.
3. Reinforcing methods, techniques and forms of work, aimed at children at early education stage using STEAM tools.
4. Improving the quality of work of partner organizations at the early education stage in the area of developing basic competences including mathematics and key competences.
The project involves 6 partners from 6 countries: Poland, Italy, Portugal, Estonia, Bulgaria, and Cyprus. The participants of the project will be over 50 kindergarten and school teachers at the early education stage, whose work involves the idea of developing key competences in early child education. Their activities are addressed to 427 children and 140 parents indirectly involved in the project.
The project is based on the experience of partner organizations in the field of mathematics education, STEAM tools development, foreign language education, implementation of small projects and international cooperation, the project will be supported by research in mathematical competences of children and the study of expectations and results addressed to teachers.
6 mobilities will be organized within the project , all devoted to teachers and their gaining new skills and professional experience in the field of developing children’s mathematical competences.
During the mobilities the following elements will be implemented:
– open sessions/classes with pupils from the host institution – 36 / project by subject:
(C1) The first concepts – introductory methods and work with the youngest children
(C2) Cause and effect – how to consolidate knowledge through games and linking phenomena;
(C3) Match and compare –how to trigger mathematical thinking;
(C4) How to tell stories about numbers using various activities;
(C5) Mathematics in practice – how to teach for the future;
(C6) Building passion, interests and relationships in the team through coding and STEAM
– training in extra content (working with SEN children, teachers-parents collaboration, multicultural society problems, individualizing educational process, local environment resources in education, cyber safety),
-visits to other institutions and meetings developing the skill of communicating in English to explore the education system of the host country and the region,
– exchange of experiences, feedback after the classes, discussions on methodical and organizational content, including the project management.
The project will create a database of supporting teaching materials/ lesson plans of classes (72/ project).
There will be 6 mathematical events, 6 exhibitions, open lessons, conferences promoting good practices and Erasmus and eTwinning projects.
An interesting form of project activities combining teachers’ and students’ activities will be “Mathematical Pranks” – activities with children carried out by small projects method and whose topics will be given by partners in the form of tasks, puzzles, rebuses. Their answers/effects will be presented on TwinSpace platform in various forms including online class/group meetings on the platform.
The results of the project will include a developed publication “Mathematics – Inspirations, Ideas, Practice” available on the Platform for Sharing the Erasmus + Program results, lesson plans, tasks and puzzles, partners’ websites containing the coverage of project events, lessons, projects implemented with children, TwinSpace platform itself created to implement the project and being a recording, sharing and disseminating tool of project activities and results.
