Project Summary
“BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD” took shape out of a context that proves more and more hostile for many students in and out of school and for some adults as well. The “bullying” phenomenon seem to take everyone aback, including teachers, administrators and counselors for there is not a set of clear measures against these malicious attitudes known by the entire society. Pupils and adults having specific disabilities find it hard to integrate since they are mocked, ridiculised, pushed aside and excluded from the schools’ teams and group works. It can happen in any school — a hateful act by a student, staff member or person outside the school family suddenly poisons the air. Most schools have plans in place for responding to fires, hazardous weather, weapons possesion, fights, medical emergencies and other situations that call for quick assessment and decisive action. Unfortunately, when bias-motivated incidents occur, many educators discover that they have not planned ahead. Similarly, the world wide natural environment is confronting with bad treatment of humans who pollute, unnecessarily overconsume, disforest etc. That is why our project’s objectives are:
O1 – To efficiently prevent the “Bullying” Phenomenon in and out schools through creating a set of measures and responses to it and, thus, to promote equity, tolerance and good behaviour.
O2 – To raise awareness of the Vulnerable Groups of Students who need our support to get included in the schools’ work teams and integrated in society exactly because they also have this right and they also have skills which contribute to the right course of things.
O3 – To instill Social Responsibility in our schools’ staff, students and their parents through promoting sound habits for both the human race and our planet. It is also a matter of behavior and how we treat nature which gives us everything we have and need to live our lives.
There will be an approximate number of 1550 direct participants from all the school partners of the project which refers to teachers, students and their parents. There will also be outside local community partners who have not been counted in the previously given number. The participants in this project belong to the Educational System and aim to implement all the good practices carefully prepared in each mobility and along the two years as long-term habits.
The activities will focus on students’ volunteering work, interaction, collaboration, mutual support, free debates, questionnaires, individual research and team work avoiding that kind of competition at the end of which there are winners and losers. Our activities aim at specific clear results in terms of knowledge, awareness, self-confidence and self-esteem which are not so tangible but stand at the bottom of any future successful initiatives and development. Simultaneously, our activities focus on achieving tangible results as well, such as a respect policy, a mini-guide of effective measures against bullying acts, posters, questionnaires, quiz games, videos with precious informing content, cards, a book with the best long-term habits which protect our natural environment and prevent further unnecessary consumption of the world natural resources and so on and so forth.
By the end of the project the participant will know that:
-unnecessary already used paper, cooking oil, glass or plastic material need to be collected separately in specially designed containers at work, at home, at school, on the street, and everywhere else, in order to be recycled and reused appropriately. That is how each and every one of us can make a significant change in the world.
-planting trees every spring and autumn is a good thing to do by each of us.
-the consumption of electricity can be significantly reduced if everyone of us uses it when really necessary and remembers to, for instance, turn off the lights when leaving a room.
-the consumption of gas can also be significantly reduced if we drive only when necessary and ride our bikes and feet more often than usually;
-bullying acts do not make anybody more successful or smarter; they only bring damage to both the doers and their victims.
-social inclusion of those facing specific difficulties is not just an act of tolerance but a solution to a more sustainable future with responsibilities for everyone
The impact of the project will be huge for all the participants. They will meet and befriend people coming from different cultures, improve their communicative skills, develop their management abilities and start new partnerships for the future.
There is even a global stream called “Living the chance – Inspiring Stories for a Sustainable Future” which explores in-depth the vicious cycle in which overconsumption of the precious resources contributes to the destruction of the world and of the human species. The students and all of us need to be taught how this vicious cycle works in order to become socially responsible from now on.
