Project Summary

‘My heritage, our future’ is a strategic partnership of 6 European schools whose main objective is improving pupil’s foreign language competence while deepening, sharing and disseminating local heritage of each partner through educational technology. Our proposal of activities ranges from using of educational value of local-regional heritage to deepening the European heritage and dimension. That’s why project results goes from poorly-known local realities to the general body of European culture.
The E+ Pedagogical team of Sopeña, concerned by the poor KNOWLEDGE of pupils about Extremadura HERITAGE, designed surveys to confirm these data: 0% of student body, 11-15 years, passed a test based on basic heritage knowledge of their region; 90% of PARENTS would like the school to set up projects about our region; 100% of TEACHERS stated that Extremadura’s heritage presence in curricula is almost non-existent.
Once the NEED was detected, we recognize our STRENGTHS to give an answer: experience in European projects, Reference school of innovation (Junta de Extremadura), development of cross-curricular units in all levels, and a programme of bilingualism promotion.
E+ Pedagogical team, as coordinator, used ETWINNING and SCHOOL GATEWAY to contact schools with the same NEED. Schools from Italy, Greece, Portugal, Czech Rep., and Germany are finally selected among 47 offers. Common motivation of these schools is working together to make up for detected needs from an innovative European dimension. A proposal where pupils have the leading role, and involvement of school community and local agents to work together to achieve our OBJECTIVES. Our LOCAL OBJECTIVES are: O1. Improving our student’s language competence, O2. Improving the use of IT for information exchange, O3. Improving local heritage knowledge, O4. Improving European heritage knowledge. These 4 will be reinforced by real communication situations through Learning, Teaching activities, and will gain an European impact through: O5. Training in innovative methodologies, O6. Sharing and confronting ideas, O7. Increasing capacity to operate transnationally, 08. Blending physical exchange and virtual cooperation, O9. Strengthening networks.
As Framework Convention of Council of Europe proposes about heritage value, our project RESULTS are broken down by DIMENSION: TANGIBLE: a) e-book in English about European heritage contextualized by region, b) innovative methodologies dossier used through the project, c) local travel guides translated into partner’s languages, d) 5 Short-Term exchanges for 25 pupils and 10 teachers of each country, e) 2 Joint Staff training events focused on innovative methodologies for foreign language teaching. INTANGIBLE: a) increasing in local-regional sense of belonging thanks to heritage, b) improving English language competence through making students responsible for oral dissemination, c) improving European dimension through studying Europe’s heritage and reality. DIGITAL (connected to dissemination, sustainability, and impact): a) project website, b) project blogs in each school for specific information of each country, c) Erasmus Project Result Platform for internationalization and dissemination of project and results, d) ETwinning platform, as the foundation of our project.
We will use our ETwinning project ‘Back to our local heritage’ to: a) have a space to collect and share partner’s daily work, b) use TWINSPACE as a meeting, cooperation, and communication point through events and videoconferences, c) Implementing VIRTUAL MOBILITIES to prepare Short-Term Exchanges and Joint Staff Training Events, d) gain disseminating ways thanks to tools. ‘Back to our local heritage’ is already a meeting point of synergies, the first ETwinning project for our German and Czech partners for example.
Our coordinated design of ACTIVITIES will channel: a) a use of innovative methodologies, b) placement of students in real communication situation in foreign language, c) local heritage dissemination, d) European heritage dissemination. Our plan of activities has 3 stages, linked to our objectives and results: a) Local and regional activities during FIRST year, b) European activities during SECOND year, c) Learning, Teaching, Training activities during the project in all our partner’s countries.
IMPACT and SUSTAINABILITY will be guaranteed by: a) including project events in the daily lesson plans of different areas and years through a cross-curricular approach, b) local-regional-national-European dissemination actions involving school communities, and public administrations in the implementation of activities and final scope of results, c) cooperation with other education bodies, associations, and interest groups that can benefit from our project results in the long run. d) publishing our project results as Open Education Resources with CC by SA license, hosted in our web/blogs, and disseminated through social networks.
