Project Summary
The “Health, Welfare, Social Inclusion Community Intervention” project is a transnational cooperation network for innovation and quality in educational practice. The project brings together educational, health, cultural and social services institutions in collaboration to promote social changes in the acquisition of skills and competencies, in order to achieve physical, mental and social wellbeing.
The partner organizations start by identifying the aspects of the students’ contexts that clearly contribute to the risk of social exclusion. Examples such as the consequences of poor nutrition, lack of physical exercise and of healthy relationships both with people and with their natural and cultural environment.
⇒ The objectives objectives have been defined after a detailed diagnosis on the current state of the situation. Prioritizing the following:
– To guarantee access to an affordable and high quality early childhood education and care.
– To address social disadvantages, academic failure and early school leaving with educational measures.
– To establish gender equality and equal opportunities based on attention to diversity and inclusion.
– To educate from early ages in responsible and autonomous care, in order to achieve physical, mental and social comfort.
– To fight against social disadvantages and inequalities, with remedial actions and educational equity.
⇒ Methodology and activities to be implemented:
– The creation of a mutually enriching associated network based on an exchange of actions that guarantee social inclusion. Starting from health and well-being as an indispensable requirement for happiness.
– Contributing to transnational cooperation among organizations by sharing ideas and methodologies.
– Focusing on training in healthy habits: nutrition, personal care, hygiene, exercise, rest, leisure and culture, etc.
– Promoting consciousness of their identity as European citizens and a change of lifestyle habits that are more adapted to the 21st century.
– Including contents from the European cross-curricular areas related to health and well-being.
– A joint intervention educational, health, culture, construction, social services, legal services sectors.
⇒ Participation:
The six centers working on this project are working along with educational communities (students, teachers, families, non-teaching staff, etc.), institutions (educational, health, social, cultural, etc.), local corporations (town councils, sports, cultural, leisure, etc.) and NGOs (Red Cross, Amnesty International, etc). Thus, there is no doubt about the success of the project and its dissemination in various environments, localities both national and European.
⇒ Expected impact:
We expect a strong social impact, as it implements a new approach to educational practice in transnational cooperation between educational organizations. In addition, taking into account the internationalized improvement of health and welfare within the European Community Intervention, which aims to guarantee the unification of educational and social policies that prevent from social exclusion and poverty. We hope this impact will:
– Favor the involvement and participation of citizens together with other social agents.
– Guarantee transparency within the joint actions and identifies needs.
– Provide solutions in specific actions, by using methodologies that establish health as a social right.
– Propose a concept of ecological health, balanced life habits and environmental protection.
– Involve architects, designers, construction and equipment, in order to achieve the citizen social comfort.
⇒ Results and Sustainability:
We are based on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) priority health strategy for Europe 2020, which defines “health” as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
– In the short term: to introduce changes in “ways of doing” in the educational centers: school canteens, hygiene (hands, teeth, showers…), physical exercise and sports, cultural activities, school garden, learning to manage free time and leisure, improvement of personal relations and social skills…
– In the long term: the establishment of joint community intervention, which will allow changes in educational, health and social policies in the educational centers. We are aiming for proper facilities, parks, proximity to health centers, recreational and leisure spaces, sports facilities and, also a “European citizen awareness” and change of sedentary lifestyles.
⇒ It will provide educational materials: “Community Health Diagnosis”, “Notebook of ideas and formulas to promote healthy habits”, “Food table”, “Role models posters, “Social Skills brochure” and “Health, Well-being and Comfort Guide”.
⇒ The dissemination of the project’s development, for the knowledge of all those involved and rest of citizens will shared in media, blog, Facebook, educational and health magazines…
